Five years ago the proper word to. use was "smart". At the present moment the most-use- d expression is "becoming." Evidently there are fashions in words as well as clothes. Looking into the future, Ethel Holland Little,, fashion editor c' the Woman's Home Companion, well-dress- predicts that the next word to be used for characterizing the smart woman will be "elegant." That word, she says, sums up what will be required of the American woman five years hence. Elegance, Mrs. Little explains, does not mean frippery. Rather it expresses a superlatively smart implicity. It has to do with lines in clothes and carriage, with beautiful materials, with subtly blended colors, with all those basic excellencies decorations that make extra seem absurd. It has to do also with extreme care in the whole effect of rainment the right hat with the right dress at the right moment, the refinement of matching glove and shoe, the and perfection of face, figure disposition as well as dress. American women of the future are going to be more attractive than ever before, Mr. Little pre dicts. They are improving every year, ehe insists. Incidentally, she takes occasion to put the new vogue for pajamas in its proper never place. "Pajamas were meant to replace the established evening dress," she says. "They are not for riding about the city In a taxi, nor for restaurants or the theatre, but. only for small affairs at home, for the beach, for lounging. Even the older women may wear them, if she wears them appropriately. It is not really a question of age but of figure and activities. If a woman goes about with a younger set, if her figure is trim, if she is energetic in thought and action, then she should dress to suit her background, not her years. If a woman is if she has distinction and if she moves in circles where pajamas are the rule, then let her wear them. Age doesn't matter." ltlliI!!!l!lllll!lil!ll!!l!!!l!l!!l!!;i!l!!!!!i!il!!I!!Ii!iIIIllIll!I!!iil!ii!lIi!H o USE ICE LOCAL EMMM AND BE Mr. end Mrs. George Harmer and family arrived home Friday from a month's vacation trip epciit touring the state of Call fornia, and visiting relatives in central Utah.
