commencement With distant rolling thunder imitating cannon fire members of the Gunnison VFW Post helped to dedicate a memorial in Fayette Sunday May 28 attended by nearly 50 The ceremony people was brief but touching as Mark Pickett told about the effort many residents made to build the new marker The marker which lists 76 names of servicemen who have served in W W W W II Korea Viet Nam and the Persian Gulf was made from brick hand chiseled from the quarry above Fayette by original settlers of the town and taken from a nearby fann house that has fallen down This marker to honor Fayette veterans and celebrate victory in peace instead of war will serve Fayette for many years and will be an inspiration to all of us said other Pickett shares his thoughts about the importance of the new
