Show Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Surrounded by their children and hosts of intimate friends, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Sorenson, long-time residents of Gunnison, were signally honored Saturday evening, when they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. anni-versary. They were married in Gunnison Gun-nison March 18, 1885, but the date of the observance of the memorable event was set ahead two days in order or-der that friends from Salt Lake might attend. The celebration was arranged and carried out by the immediate im-mediate members of the family and proved, according to those who were present, to be one of the most successful suc-cessful social events held here for a long time. The Scout lodge, where the festivities festivi-ties were held, was the scene of much merry-making, when the 140 guests and the honored members were seated seat-ed at the banquet table. Dinner was served at six o'clock, with dancing following-. At ten-thirtv a luncheon was served, and the guests lingered until near midnight. The celebration started at 4 o'clock, and at 4:30 an appropriate program was given, which included the following fol-lowing numbers: Opening prayer, I President Chas. S. Hansen; vocal solo, ! "We've Been Chums for Fifty Years, Rose," E. L. Swalberg; reading, Mrs. Hans C. Olsen; piano solo, Mrs. Mortimer Mor-timer Sorenson; reading, composed and read by Mrs. George Sorenson; j reading, Mrs. Orson Ludvigson, dedi-i dedi-i cated to the honored guests by Mrs. David Anderson; play, "Fifty Years Ago," dramatized by grandchildren; song, "The Old Spinning Wheel," Mrs. Orson Ludvigson; genealogy history, given by S. P. Jensen; benediction, bene-diction, Bishop John M. Anderson. Martin John Sorenson, the son of Christian Pete and Marie Mickelson Sorenson, ox team pioneers, was born in Gunnison, November 27, 1863. Eda Roseberg Sorenson, daughter of Peter Pe-ter Nielsen and Christina Olsen Roseberg, Rose-berg, was horn in Malma, Sweden, Septmeber 22, 186S. She came to Utah in 1880, and March 18, 1885, iwas married to Mart'n Sorenson, Bishop Christian Madsen officiating. Excepting for four years spent at Scipio, Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson have made Gunnison Valley their home since their marriage. Ten children were born to the union, eight of whom are living. The living are Mrs. Chas. C. Bosshardt and Mrs. James R. Peterson, Redmond; Red-mond; Mrs. A. E. Willardson, Salt Lake; Levoy Sorenson and Vernon Sorenson of Centerfield; Clinton Sorenson Sor-enson of Aurora; TVlortimer P. Sorenson Sor-enson of Gunnison, and Mrs. Rubert Bouvang of Ely, Nev. All the children, child-ren, in addition to the sixteen living grandchildren, were present at the anniversary party Saturday evening. |
