We will be privileged to listen to Gary John Bartholomew, a soldier recently returned from the Middle East, and his wife Ami. What a unique opportunity this will be for those of us here in the comfort and safety of our beautiful valley to hear about life in such a different and forbidding part of the world. Truly an event not to be missed. A roast-beef dinner will kick off the Monday evening celebration at 5:30 pm at the Gunnison Park. And to the teens- how 'bout you really go have fun and actually dance instead of standing around outside the dance? Just a thought! Nothing will start your July 4th celebration better than getting up early, so be prepared for a little wake-up call in case you forget to set your alarm! At 6 am head to the park for a delicious, hot breakfast prepared by those great veterans that we all owe so much. The American Legion cooks up the best pancakes you can imagine and nobody goes away the slightest bit hungry! The flag ceremony at 7 really sets the tone for the day, so don't be late for that. If you hit the snooze button a few too many times, breakfast will be served clear until 9 am, so no excuses! We'll see the whole town thereafter all, it is the. most important meal of the day! The parade will proudly march down Main Street starting at 9 am. Registration will begin at 8 am in a new spot- 50 W Center. The parade route is the same, but registration and lining up will be done very differently this year so be ready for this change. As exciting as our parade always is, please make a strong effort to keep your family right on the edge of the streets and NEVER walk in towards to floats for any reason! Safety is the key to keeping our parade so unique and fun and we'd hate for any sad event to change all that. Gunnison Park will then host tons of games, volleyball, a diaper derby, horseshoes, concessions, the best car-show around, quilt show, library sale, dunking machine, bounce house and slide, paint ball target-shooting, PHEW!! Taco salads and hamburgers are some of the specialties served by the Lions Club for lunch and that's not all- if you think you can eat the most watermelon, drink the most root-beer or eat a pie in a few huge bites, you'll want to be front and center for those events. Start practicing today-napkins are optional! Bring your goggles and flippers because swimming will open from 2 to 4 pm. Not only is the swimming free, but you can actually get rich when we have a money toss at 3 pm! With all of these events there is certainly something for everyone, but it's not over yet. For those of you wishing for one more night of fun, there will be a FREE MOVIE AND POPCORN at the park at 9:15 pm. The movie, National Treasure, will be shown with free popcorn while supplies last. Get in your pajamas, bring your pillows and blankets to the south side of the swimming pool and see this exhilarating show drive-in style! Come make memories with family, friends and neighbors on this special day from morning to night there is something for everyone! |
