Show RESULT IS STILL IN 00U3T " i Canvassing Board Declares Maine I? "Wet" by Majority of 26, But Further Count Will Be Made Augusta, Me. Complete official returns re-turns from the special election held on September 11, when Maine voted on the repeal of the constitutional prohibitory amendment, as canvassed can-vassed by the governor and council Monday night, showed a majority of twenty-six votes in favor of repeal. Various discrepancies were found in the official returns as compared with the tabulations compiled by the secretary of state's office. The latter indicated a majority for repeal re-peal of 136. Some doubt remains as to the correctness cor-rectness of the returns, and Governor Gov-ernor Plaisted announced that city and town clerks would be given twenty days to check the results. VJith the result standing os close a correction in the vote in any of the several towns would have a decided effect upon the majority, and in the cases of Westfield and Athens would be sufficient to turn the result against repeal. |
