' i Widening of the Wendover road, a straight away road of about 40 miles across the Great Salt Lake Desert, will be ordered by the State Road commission te T. DeWitt Foster, publicity Salt Lake Rotary Club and one of the mos tenthusiastic boosters for the Wendover route in the state; State Road Agent R. R. Judd; County Commissioner O. H. Barrus; G. M. Matthews who constructed the present grade across the desert; Jas. L. Wrathall, E. M. Clark, R. D. Halladay, Secretary of the Grants-vill- e Commercial Club, and C. J. Anderson. as a result of the inspection made by members of the commission last Friday. About three miles of the grade has been widened by Mr. Elfors of Arinosa, who has a trench digger at work there now, and demonstrated the successful work on the finished part of the grade. The road is in pretty fair condition for practically all of the way across the desert but it is a single track road at present and places where it is possible to turnout are few and far between. This makes travel over the road at present inconvnient. MUTUAL PROGRAM FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 3. The following program has tourists at present and a number of cars were met on the road Friday by the party who made the tour of inspection. Contrary to the prediction of some at the time the present grade was built, Secretary of State Harden Bennion says, it is standing well and demonstrates the feasibility of constructing a good road across the desert. The burrow pits from which the earth for the grade was taken on either side of the road are already filled up with sand and t of the a program dance in the North Ward and Amusement Hall on August 6th at 8:30 p. m. sharp.
