Show turns while battling with the foe on account of the failure of the commissary to get supplies to them. Most of the soldiers leaving the service were generally without funds and in many instances, they had to be supplied with funds from home if they wished to obtain any of the luxuries, and in a few instances, some of the necesaries of life. It is said by many of the doughboys returning from France that the seldom got either butter or sugar with their rations, although all of them had been accustomed to these articles os part of their daily fare at home. These boys also state that (he commissary always seemed to be supplied with sugar if the soldier boys had the money with which to buy it, and this is the reason given why most of the soliders came home without any funds and even in debt. This was not due in most cases to extra va-gance, but to obtain the common fare which home folks presumed were supplied by the government to every soldier as a part of his rations. Many of the soldiers consider that the commissary was conducted by the officers to graft the rank and file of the boys who were in the service. A meeting was held at Provo last week at which were representatives from all the counties interested in the project except Tooele, although Tooele County probably has more land available for irrigation located closer to th project than any1 of the other counties interested, and for that reason should be interested more than the other coupties. As the project contemplates irrigating the land on both sides of Salt Lake Valley, this will make feasible the irrigation of thousands of acres in both Rush and Tooele Valleys, for, to bring the water to the west side of Salt Lake Valley, it will have to be siphoned across the Jordan River at Jordan Narrows and from there it can be conveyed by means a canal to Cedar Valley and then into Rush Valley and along the east side of Rush Valley into Tooele - Two Yean of Prohibition Have Helped the Thrift Habit, and is Increasing With National Prohibition. awwiwwwwiwwwiwwiiwii To Increase Farm Lands Valuation. to It that it is the intention of the State Board o: to raise the assessed valuation on farm lands in Tooele Equilization is reported County 30 per cent on the present valuation for ,the year 1910 It is also said that the same increase will be made on the stocks o: merchandise in the county.
