The $170,000 truck, which was purchased e single-stagfrom the Community Impact Board, features a pump, topmounted pump control panel, and a cab and crew area. It is the first truck in Moab to comply with the National Fire Protection Association's latest safety and performance standards for fire apparatus. Beginning in January of 1991, members of the local department spent literally hundreds of hours preparing the grant application, designing the truck, and reviewing bids. Also purchased with the $180,000 grant was 1100 feet of large diameter hose and related appliances. This 5" hose gives the department the ability to move large amounts of water over longer distances. "We are extremely happy to have been able to improve this departments fire protection capabilities at absolutely no cost to local taxpayers," said Chief Corky Brewer. "As the community changes and grows, fire protection needs also change and grow. All of our volunteers have been working hard to keep pace with Moab's rapidly increasing fire protection needs." Moab firemen Henry Thingvold, left, and Monte Curtis drove the truck from the Pierce factory in Wisconsin ar fully-enclos- ed to Moab. Learning: It begins at home . . Studies show that with a little praise people will work harder and longer. That persistence will help them succeed later in life as they face more and more difficult tasks. Share your ethnic heritage with your children. Help them learn about the important contributions made by people from those lands from which their ancestors came. Demonstrate to your children your appreciation of diversity. Pizza, tacos, navajo tacos, or quiche might provide a beginning to a discussion of different people and different cultures. Have you ever asked, "What do you think?" Think how your child would feel if you asked himher this question and then really listened. Have you ever spent time with a child. It is recommended that you spend special time with each child regularly. The hearing was in regards to the possibility of getting a standard nine hole golf course. The hearing was attended by a large number of Green River residents and City council, other Emery County residents and officials, offi- cials of the Utah State Parks Division and members of the Grand County Travel Council. Those attending from Green River represented business people, seniors, youth and generally a broad scope of local residents. The entire group in attendance voiced a positive vote in favor of the course. There being no dissenters the way was cleared for continued efforts of filing for CIB monies. The plan began as the dream of local Green River members on the Grand County Travel Council and has developed into a real goal. They first obtained support from the Grand County travel Council to support the concept with $100,000. Green River for a quite a number of past years has paid in approxiof the Transient mately one-thir- d Room Tax received by Grand County. It is best if we don't always give them what they want just when they want it. Sometimes we can not afford what they want and at other times it is not the best time for them to have what they are clamoring for.
