Show The MarRfit and the Mines Thousands of dollars have been distributed in dividends during the present month by the banks and other industrial institutions, and most of the beneficiaries have shown their appreciation by investing in-vesting their profits in the securities from which the dividends have been realized- This has given some activity to a market which has hardly been up to par since the holidays. During the past , week there have been small sales of Consolidated Wagon preferred, Utah Sugar preferred, Western Idaho Sugar and some of the common sugar stocks, bank stocks and bonds. Among the more recent dividends are those of the State Bank and the Deseret National, each of which paid 3 per cent. Prices of nearly all shares hold steady. A glance at the closing prices on the mining stock exchange Wednesday afternoon showed that the strength of the market lay in the higher priced issues. The shares quoted at less than 50 cents suffered during the week, but their losses were more than made up by the gains of the larger proportions. The aggregate value of ten leading shares at the end of the week was $13.03, or 614 cents more than at the beginning. Trading, however, as shown by the daily reports of Secretary Secre-tary Shorten, was not up to the standard of the preceding week. The number of shares sold was 265,047, a decrease of 19,301. Their value was $110,629.61, or $6,767.54 less. Ore and bullion settlements set-tlements were $466,600, which is $300 less than the week before. Little Bell set a lively pace, advancing from $4.50 to $4.90 on reports of a connection with the contact vein. Eagle & Blue Bell followed this lead, jumping from $1.90 to $2.06 Columbus Consolidated Con-solidated climbed 10 cents and closed at $4.40. Sacramento went from 114 to 12 and Carisa from 234 to 24. Lower Mammoth took the booby prize with a decline of 2y2 cents from 43. May Day dropped from zy2 to 12; Star from 14 to 1354; Beck Tunnel from 48 to 47 and New York from 18 to 17J4 Despite the unfavorable comparisions made above the tone of the market continues good and there are no symptoms of a slump in values. BINGHAM. Guggenheim experts are making an examination examina-tion of the Boston Consolidated and the fact is taken as evidence that the Boston is to be included in-cluded in the proposed copper consolidation. Samuel Newhouse is quoted, in the east, as saying say-ing that the Boston is now yielding over $2,000,-000 $2,000,-000 a year in profits. Forty tons a day is being handled by the Boston's new testing mill A steel gallows frame and a 40-horse power hoist are being placed on the Bingham Mary. The plant will go into commission about the first of March. Butler-Liberal directors have elected J. J. Corum president of the board. It has been announced an-nounced that the Boston Consolidated has recently broken into two immense bodies of sulphide ore through what was supposed to be the hanging wall, on two levels. On the Peabody level two crosscuts cross-cuts 200 feet apart have been driven into the shoot for 40 feet and the end is not yet TINTIC. The Grand Central is said to have more ore in sight than ever before. May Day has loaded n car of shipping ore from the 300 level. The West Tintic, the Bonanza, Burlington, Old Scotia and Orient properties are being worked and there is a crying demand for a mill to handle the low-grade low-grade ore. Simon Bamberger is president and John Dern vice-president and manager of the Lower Mammoth as the result of the election held this week. The directors are considering the advisability ad-visability of adding 400 feet to the depth of the shaft The Tintic Mining & Development company com-pany has increased its capital stock from 600,000 to 700,000 five-dollar shares, and will use the jH money realized from the sale of the new issue to pay off debts and provide working capital. Most of its debt was created by the improvements at the Yampa smelter. Star Consolidated is drift-ing drift-ing through ore on the 450 level and expects to reach the same shoot on the 600 level soon. Ore jjH shipments from Tintic last week aggregated 181 cars. Centennial 59, Gemini 25, Dragon Iron 18, Mammoth 12, Eagle & Blue Bell and Swansea 8. PARK CITY. The Daly-Judge mill is treating from 100 to 150 tons a day and turning out about 20 tons of fl concentrates. The zinc shipments are becoming a considerable item, amounting to 250 tons a week. In December the Daly-West took in $104,-364.95 $104,-364.95 and paid out $60,065.03. It added $8,300 to he surplus after allowing for the regular divi3 .id. Sinking of the new St. Louis-Magnolia shaft will commence within two weeks In excavating at the surface samples have been taken out that give high assays. The Ontario has not yet reached the water inlet in the drain tunnel, but satisfactory progress is being made in cleaning up the bore. The flow from the workings is now normal. A report has been in circulation, but has not been verified by the management, that the Little Bell has made connection on the 700 level with the big contact vein for which it has been drifting. Whether the contact has been reached or not makes little difference while the drift is in ore of WM the quality that it has been penetrating. BEAVER COUNTY. H By the end of the month the mill at New- house will be devouring 700 tons of ore a day. It is now treating 650. The Harrington-Hickory of the Majestic company is getting the richest ore it has yet found from the bottom of the 700-foot shaft. Large quantities of ore are being blocked out in the Old Hickory of the same company. Work continues in the Burning Moscow in Star district and the ore bodies are showing no diminu- tion in volume. Shipments will be resumed when the weather permits. Rich silver ore is being taken from the Talisman shaft at the depth of H 425 feet. ALL OVER UTAH. I Having arranged to secure the use of the Con- tinental tramway the City Rocks property at Alta H will begin marketing its mineral product next H week. Five assays made for gold on samples from the H Lucky Star near Logan gave an average of $4.02 in the yellow metal. The copper product of the H mine is as high as $150 to the ton. H 1 1 H |
