Show I While the government is working upon an almost impossibility on the Isthmus of Panama, it ought to do a little digging nearer at home. A tiny canal connects the Delaware and Chesa-peak Chesa-peak Bays. That ought to be enlarged into a great ship canal, deep enough and wide enough to float the biggest war ship. It might be of great utility in time of war, but much more In time of peace. If it could also include a great canal across Now Jersey to connect the lower bay of New York City by water with Maryland and Virginia it would give a new direction to a vast amount of commerce and open a pleasure route by water between four or five great states that would be superb! There is lots of work yet to be done at home. |
