Show FACTS FOR VOTERS, Thf platform adopted by- the Salt Lake County USmGcratio convention aayst "We dirflct the attention at-tention of the voters of -this county to the fact that It was Democratic administration that placed this Soiinty on a cash basis." LSt. us see. "When the Democratic county administration ad-ministration went out of power, on the first day of January, 1901, the taxes for 1900 had been practically prac-tically all collected. On that date there were outstanding out-standing $82,021.95 county warrants, bearing five per cent interest. Was a debt of that magnitude (exclusive of ?470,000 county bonds) on a cash basis? Because of there being no cash, the amount of county warrants outstanding had increased to $58,218.81 by April 1st of that year; by September 1st, when the taxes began to come in, the outstanding out-standing warrants amounted to ?106,315.88. Was the county on a cash basis under the Democratic administration that left more than a hundred thousand dollars current debts by the time of collecting 1901 taxes? In the year 1900, Salt Lake county paid ?3,G70.78 interest on warrants it had no cash to meet. In 1901, the interest paid was $3,010.10. This was on money advanced chiefly by Salt Lake banks. Was it a cash basis to be paying thirty-six hundred dollars a year interest on unpaid un-paid bills for current expenses? These facts are shown by the Salt Lake County recDrds, kept in those years by a Democratic auditor.. audi-tor.. They reveal this distinction between the Democratic platform dnd the figures, viz: Figures don't lie. As a matter of fact, the county was so far from being on a cash basis when a Republican Board Of Commissioners came into power in January, 1901, that the minority commissioners, now a candidate can-didate for re-election on the Democratic ticket, and the then County Treasurer, a Democrat, urged that the better way to pay the furniture warrants judgment, rendered January 7, 1901, as to issue an additional $30,000 county bonds. But the Republican Re-publican majority said: "No, we will raise the amount this year, and get rid of the debt." An& they did. The truth is that it was not until November, 1903, under a Republican administration, that Salt Lake county was placed on a cash basis in its currant cur-rant expenses, there to remain for any lengthened period, without Increasing the county tax. Vote the Republican ticket from top to bottom and keep the County and State in line with the Republican administration at Washington. The only safe way to vote for Roosevelt is to put your (X) cross in the circle over the Roosevelt electors. The Republican Ticket is the only tlokot that has Roosevelt on. Take no chances of losing your vote by soratohing your ticket. |
