1928 Under TIIE June lies rich and heavy on the land in Utah You feel it in the heavy shadows beneath the spreading box elders cottonwoods and locusts now in full new leaf You sense it in the fields of waist high wheat and barley that stretch back from the barbed You know' it wire fences along the roadsides from the green weighted full heads of the grain crowding one another for room and already showing a tendency to bend slightly on their stems You smell it in the spicy fragrance of gardens glorious with the gay hues of pinks and sweet Williams in the heavy sweetness of the catalpa’s mam-ot- h blossoms in the lighter fragrance the afternoon breeze lifts up to you from the walls of climbing roses that obscure every trace of the fences on which they grow in the perfume of sap laden willows along the ditch bank and in the aroma of new made alfalfa hay on the field beyond You hear it in the chorus of birds that begins with a few scattered chrips and rises to an ecstacy of exultation as the dawn outlinees the tops of the towering Wasatch range the bisects the State All month the sights the sounds and the smells march forward one after another and all at once to proclaim a present grandeur and a future bounty to the responding soul of man If pleasant scenery can make a vacation every inhabitant of this western paradise is on vacation in June without leaving his doorstep 1879 PRICE $200 A YEAR HereJExpected to Honoring One Family’s Sacrifice Can’t Beat Our June 8 Memorial Service EDITOR Of course we have thought it all through before but here it is again and it will be with us always because it happened this whole touching story Here in this valley we will be reminded of it often because we frequently will see our neighbors the Borgstroms or hear their name and these things will bring to mind the tremendous loss sustained by this family in defense of our country We often will see the monument erected by a sympathetic and appreciative nation rising over the graves of the four boys who gave their lives in widely separated theatres of action and who are now' brought together to lie in the- - center of the valley they called home We have an idea too that miles away from here across our whole nation people oft will call it to mind because of its unusualness and because of its depth of tragedy — something that will be sensed most keenly by those who gave up one from their family circle or two It will be wdth us most keenly this Saturday as the nation comes into our midst to pay its formal tribute of sympathy to a family that was called upon t give so much for that nation’s preservation and to acknowledge in fitting ceremony its appreciation of the magnitude of the sacrifice of a life laid down in response to the call of patriotic duty Then the hearts of people everywhere will be stirred as they visualize the reuniting here of the honored remains of these four children of one home but we who hear with our own ears the rhythmic tread of the hundreds of feet and the muffled drums of those who in sorrow and respect escort the bodies of our neighbor’s boys to their final rest and with our own eyes see the solemn procession move past our dwellings will be most deeply stirred with proper emotion Friday and Saturday the flags of Box Elder county will fly in respect to these four heroes in respect to the country’s armed services in which they served and died along with thousands of others and in respect to our guest the illustrious General Mark W Clark whose own deeds of heroism in the late wTar are well known to many The State of Utah will acknowledge its debt and voice its sympathy thru its Governor while the Church Saints to which the of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y boys belonged will reiterate for the solace of the bereaved and the enlightenment of those who gather at the service the message of a literal resurrection and of life eternal through one accepted by hundreds of thousands as God’s living mouthpiece upon the earth President George Albert Smith This loss and sacrifice of the Borgstroms and all the other losses and sacrifices will be very real We will be praying too that to us this week somehow men may find a way to peace that such not always have to be things may March 1948 READING DOWN THE SIDE WITH DISTRIBUTION theAct of I Attract-Thousan- ds All other events in Box Elder will be county this dwarfed
