the East Garland ward of the Bear River stake as it tonight prepares to welcome friends from all the county to visit and inspect its beautiful new chapel The ward members wall be there almost one hundred per cent to join with their visitors in in a hearty banquet and a dance in the building And well may this rural community feel proud for now it is to worship in a chapel in which the peace and beauty of the Sabbath will find a harmonious setting Of compact ' and tasteful floors and solid oak design with hardwood furniture it is everything that a small congregation of good will taste could desire By day an abundance of sunlight enter thru attractive windows on either side and modern lighting fixtures will illuminate it by night It is thirty feet by forty feet in size and one hundred and forty people can Two or three times that sit in the body of it at one time many can be accomodated when the folding doors which separate it from the recreation hall are opened But itis in the class rooms and other CLASS ROOMS accomodations of the building that one ARE AMAZING sees the most adequate provision for the FEATURE needs of the two hundred fifty souls that Six fine well make up Bishop Holman's small flock lighted rooms for group study are provided in addition to a office the an a Relief room for Society Bishopric special storage room for the Relief Society a kitchen with electric ranges cupboards and other modern equipment such as sinks with hot and cold water supply a shower room for basketball teams to use a new furnace room and heating plant and a spacious gymnasium or recreation hall for basketball gumes This part of the building was the dancing and dramatics original ward hall and has new lighting fixtures and an excellent floor All the new section is constructed of brick and concrete and attaches to the original ward hall on the south and east The East Garland ward had its WARD FOUNDED ginning in the old Sunset branch of the S Bear River City ward which was AGO ized February 13 1894 in the “little green school house” President Rudger Clawson was present on the occasion W L Grover was the presiding elder Frank L Walker was named Sunday School superintendent and was Succeeded shortly after by Arthur R Capener in 1898 with W L The Garland ward was organized Grover as bishop Meetings were held then at the North Gar- land school house It was not until 1904 that the development of the valley made possible a full ward organization at East Garland John W Larson a member of the first Sunday School superintendencv of the old Sunset branch was selected as bishop and his counselors were John T Anderson and David Cook Two other full bishoprics have preceded the present one Hans T Johnson John 0 Oyler Jr and Lafayette Grover comprised one and were succeeded by Eugene S Hansen Or- tuirtv son L Detain and Lester Holman The building which now becomes the recreation hall unit in the new structure was constructed about 1908 Bishop Holman in leading his ward membership to their new 1938 triumph a building and improvements to cost $16500 has had the cheerful cooperation of every organization and member of his ward of 250 souls him Assisting first have been his counselors Ed Isaacson and Paul Larson and the ward clerk David Larson who incidentally was on the roll of that first Sunset Sunday school as librarian Work has gone rapidly forward since last summer when the ward razed the abandoned East Garland school house which had been purchased for the material it contained The goal now set calls for the payment in full for the improvements some time this coming spring so the church may be dedicated at an appropriate service Other officers of this enterprising little ward are as follows: Relief Society: Leah Oyler Oyler superintendent Lodena Oyler and Lottie Potter Counselors Letitia Sorensen secretary Wm E Nelson was the architect for the building and Leo Oyler was the contractor and builder “Suffer Little
