Show Republicanism. Tho election is now over and though it did not go as many anticipated and as some fervently hoped, it went nevertheless. never-theless. The people did enough to show that Utah Is a Republican state nnd that thoy are not going to bo carried away by every wind of doctrine, that may or has, in the past, started up. Tho people of this inter-mountain region re-gion have been taught slnco their earliest colonization here to be self sustaining; keep their money at home and keep out of debt. Thcso doctrines were not considered political po-litical principles, but it Is pretty good logic log-ic and pretty good political economy; and Is just what the Republican party has been advocating slnco its inception fifty years ago. The pcoplo of thla stato bavo ngsln shown thoy aro in sympathy with tho party and tho president for protection, sound monoy, redeeming the nrld lands, prosecuting the trusts nnd driving menacing mena-cing combines out of business. Naturally many of our citizens imagined imag-ined a few years ago thoy wero Democrats Demo-crats but as they became educated in the principles of a republican form of government gov-ernment and have taken part in debating and discussing tho issues between the great national parties nnd havo become acquainted with tho effects of those advocated ad-vocated by, both for better and for worso, they havo left tho parched and nonproductive nonpro-ductive wastes of Democracy and have gradually drifted to tho green pastures, fruitful fields and peaceful shades of Republicanism, Although thero were four tickets in the Held the last campaign in this county, It was tho cleanest and less acrid of any wo havo yet had.whllo in Salt Lako coun ty from a paper stand point it was the dirtiest. It is not an easy matter for a wayfaring way-faring man to divine exactly whero wu arc at politically In Box Elder. We Lavo an organization known as the American party. Some of its members say it is independent of tho party by the samo name in Salt Lake county and may be called off at any moment; and yet their stato ticket was tho same as thst mado up by the American pnrty at the capital .Thoy say they aro Republicans, but they worked for and hoped for tho election of tho Democratic ticket or tickets tick-ets in Idaho. Some nldcd the Democrats In Idaho, others the Americans In Salt Lake: aud while thero would be a scorning scorn-ing mlxup in this respect there is one point upon which the Salt Lake Americans, Ameri-cans, Box Elder Republlco-Amcricans and tho Idaho Democrats stand solidly united and that Is that tho church influ-enccs influ-enccs its members to voto es it sees fit. In 1004 one of the candidates on tho Republican ticket camo out with a ma-Jorlty ma-Jorlty of 005. In 1006 his majority is nearly twice that number and it is known many Democrats voted for him. Wonder if Josoph F. Smith sent a secret mcssen ger Into Box Elder to tell tho Democrats to scratch their own candldato for his op-poncnt? op-poncnt? Again, another Republican came out of tho battle In 1004 with 030 votes tosparo; In 1000 ho dropped down to 170. In this caso many of tho Republicans Repub-licans are known to have scratched in favor of tho Democrats running for tho samo ofllce. Thero are at least four other candidates candi-dates whose showing is much the same; but this is enough to show what silly childish twaddle this cry about "church Influcnco" Is. Some of these candidates wero indorsed indor-sed by the Americans which would account ac-count for part of these differences but not for all. But now the cruel war Is over nnd we can all well afford to work along those Hues tho adoption of which has made our county great and prosperous is building build-ing up our stato and developing the resources re-sources of this county.
