A. Franklin, 1731 Wonderful Department! I have always praised our local fire department, but don't believe I have truly appreciated their marvelous efficiency or degree of cooperation that each one has, until I saw them in action early Friday morning when fire threatened to destroy the Copper Printing Con.pany office and plant. We rc reived a telephone call from our good friends. Johnny Evans. A. J. West over and Chuck Houley. who were enroute to work. Our phone rang about one minute after the fire siren started. X had e the call was related to the fire siren, as soon as the phone ctaried ringing. Howard and I arrived at the shop just after these wonderful firemen had broken the glass in on the front door. The smoke was terrific and the double thicknesses of glass that separate the front office from the machinery department were crackling and flying all around the office. Stil. the firemen plunged ahead. It was amasing to me after the blase was under control, that more damage had not occurred, for the front seemed an inferno when wo first arrived. All of our records and files were saved. extend cannot we Truly, enough thanks to the firemen or the man who so kindly stopped to report the fire. A Hew Era We are entering an era of change, so fantastic, so unusual that we find if difficult to adjust our thinking and our lives to tha developments as they unfold. In another year or two our nation will be spanned by super planes in less tims than it takes to drive from our homos to airports and they tell us tha new c pianos will span the Atlantic and Pacific in but a few hours. Psrhsps ws should concantraio our efforts on developing super mrn and women to meet the challenges of the great age that is unfolding. Why are we so interested in speed? Why is it so important to got from hero to someplace in nothing flit?
