CRASH ON 92nd BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY ....... 9. KCC KEEPS UP WORK TO MAGNA MAN FILES FOR CONTROL DUST LEGISLATURE A long face and a broad mind are rarely found under the same hat. To the fine community of na, the Brockbank Jr. Mag- H. S. is very grateful. During this past year, the Magna Branch Library was combined and placed in the school. This made an additional 8,000 books including many reference books available for use in the education of your sons and daughters. In the past few years at Brock-banthe school library has not been able to extend as much help educationally as the students and teachers desired because of such a small number of books. Students soon discovered that the library facilities were extremely limited, and as a result, they could not explore new fields of interest, develop very many new ideas, nor obtain much information which would help to broaden their educational outlook. Reading Material Fiaential Ideally, the Junior High School is and should be an exploratory period of time" in the lives of young people. If a school library cannot offer enough good books to students to enrich their lives while they are in school then where else can these young people learn the importance of educabecoming tionally. We desire that they explore many different areas of subject matter in order that they might become better prepared and more capable of selecting a future career for themselves which will satisfy them, and give them confidence as individuals. Teachers can and do explain about all the stibject matter leading to future careers, but if there are not enough books to expand out beyond the teachers recitation, then what can any of ua expect as an end result? Can we expect the young person to retain interest in school work if some of the most important materials are lacking? Do we operate railroads and send them on the way to their, destination without the steel rails under them? Where would they end up or we might ask would they ever get started? Books are the steel rails that serve as a guide to there young people. They gladly accept the "word of the book aa "authority." Good books challenge their reasoning powers and help them to formulate plans for their own futures as productive citizens. Good books also help them to realize the importance of reading that reading is a tool that has no substitute. k. well-round- S. 1.
