Friday, January year BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY To MAKE BIG GAINS IN St FOR Sleigh-Rider- Wins Out la Long Runl A friend of mine remarked to me this week that it often seemed that the girls who had higher ideals and finer principles, were not always the popular ones. Ah, my dear, popularity is such a short-live- d experience and quite unnecessary, as I try to already tell my three daughters. May I quote to you one of my favorite sayings by that eminent philosopher, Ren Johnson: Be not ashamed of thy virtues; honour's a good brooch to wear in your hat at all times." Now that the eventful year of has become business and economic history, Magna, Garfield, Hunter and Granger can look back upon it as one of unusual progress, expanding industries, more homes, new business building, and in many instances, new peaks in production and retailing. In a survey made this week, the gains made by local industries in production, employment and expansion are almost astounding, and accounts for the growth of our bank, more homes, bigger business enterprises as well as the expansion of our public utilities. Waterworks Systesns During the year, Magna's town-ownwaterworks system, reached a valuation of $460,000 over 1953 valuation of $380,000, and found a greater demand for water and increased number of patrons. They have a total of 1575 accounts over 1953's final count of 1954 ed 1434. E. D. Jenkins is chairman with P. W. Seay and E. J. Gardner, Unless trustees.
