Important Role For Car Offldab While many of us show a keen interest in the new models of automobiles as they are being shown to the public, we do not realize that the various car manufacturers play an important role in the national defense program, as our efforts turn to peacetime pursuits, and we hope that war and its many attendant evils are in the background. Uncle Sam has made plans to protect our interests. Scattered at strategic points all over the U. S. are a chain of mystery" plants, ready for operation, but which are not producing a thing, In these plants, carefully lo- cated, hundreds of workers n port for duty every day, punch train newcomers, check and maintain machinery and equipment and have everything in readiness to start production in a few hours notice. These plants are a part .of the automotive industry, where they have men of specials skills, designers and producers of needed items made out of metal. These plants are ready to make defense materials and equipment. Machinery is carefully watched, protected from rust and other damage, and can quickly start operations. This is a form of national defense insurance about which most of us know very little. time-clock- Old Saint Nick To Arrive In Garfield Next Thursday, December 16th With Pomp and Ceremony Magna's business area and Gar- fields shopping district are taking on gay Holiday attire day by day, in preparation for the Christ- mas season.
