Show heVs Have A Great Tournament . I am writing this letter to the editor about 1A basketball. I hear so much about the private schools and how they cheat and recruit basketball players and not students. What kind of basketball bas-ketball players should they have on their teams? Five-foot three-inch three-inch nerds, so the public schools can beat up on them all the time? I think it's time that you coaches quit crying and start playing basketball and do some one-on-one coaching with the players. Make them better players play-ers instead of saying, "That's as good as they'll ever be!" That's not -so. . , Too many coaches work with just the "good" players and the "name"(what family they come . from). And you hear so many ' IA coaches say, "I don't have anything, we won't win a game, we'll lose by a hundred points, what am I going to do?" Well, build on what you've got, and. make the best of it. Quit crying, or get out of coaching. ' Think back a few years to Coach Parker from Marysvale how did he build his basket- ball teams? Through hard work with the kids he worked with all of them and his team consisted consist-ed of 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders. This was his main team, and he placed' in state almost all the time and played bigger schools. So, suck it up, start coaching and quit crying. Think of the years that the public schools dominated State 1A and beat the private schools by 30 point or more. That was all right, but now they are beating beat-ing you and it's wrong! So, some of them have some foreign students or players one player play-er doesn't win it all! I have a lot of respect for a coach who goes and plays the game and doesn't cry about the other team. There is a coach I had a chance to watch last year and I was impressed with him. I think his name was Barney and it was at the Girls State Tournament and he won that his team played the private schools. You didn't see him cry about the private schools! So, you boys coaches in 1A quit crying and start coaching! Let's go to the State Tournament this year and have a great tournament with sportsmanship sports-manship on our minds and cheer our home team on. Let's not throw food and call players names like happened last year to a 'State final team.' Let's be adults and give credit where it should go.
