Show Escqlanta fays By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Residents, former residents, relatives, rela-tives, friends and visitors enjoyed a fun-filled, nostalgic weekend in Es-calante Es-calante over the Memorial Day holiday. They were celebrating the 125th birthday anniversary of the settlement of Escalante. There were breakfasts, dinners, programs, flag raising, re-enactments of the olden days, reunions, graduation, a weekend week-end filled to overflowing. The old high school gym was filled with craft shops, memorabilia, memora-bilia, old time stores and shops, entertainment en-tertainment and a timeline in pictures, pic-tures, from 1776 to 2001. And in the very center of it all were park benches, trees etc. where you could just sit and reminisce. It was all very much like the olden days. Besides the celebration the Porter Por-ter Reunion, which is always held on the Saturday prior to Memorial Day, brought almost 250 Porter relatives to town and graduation brought many more. So, how do I begin to tell you who was here without missing someone? And there isn't room to tell you where they all live, individually, indi-vidually, so I'll just tell you about heads of families, I can remember, and the general area from whence they came! After all, when they all get here they are HOME! Just before the holiday, Renee and Ben Porter had Renee's sisters here.
