Show Republican Caucuses Set For Tuesday, Mar. 23 By Ada Cox, Garfield County Republican Party Secretary This year, 2004, is a very important election year. This Fall, county voters will select a President tt serve for the next four years, and for the state of Utah, a Governor, an Attorney General and other state officials, that include a Congressman,, a Senator, a State Representative, and a County Commissioner.- Who makes the choices on which candidate gets to run in the General Elections on Nov.? The answer to that question will be decided in every community next week as neighborhood caucuses cau-cuses elect officers and delegates dele-gates to represent them. By law, all party caucuses must be held on Mar. 23, 2004, at 7 p.m. During their one-hour meeting, meet-ing, Garfield Republicans will elect a Chairman, Vice- Chairman, SecretaryTreasurer, and state and county delegates from each community. These local people will serve for two years and will have the vote on selecting party candidates candi-dates for 1 1 very critical government govern-ment offices. They will choose the best candidate for Governor out of the eight Republicans who are seeking the office. They will also narrow the choices choic-es that voters will find on primary pri-mary ballots. They will rework the Party Platform. Their decisions deci-sions will determine how much candidates will have to spend the rest of 2004 on campaign war chests. They will also have authority to amend State and County Constitutions and Bylaws. And who gives them all of this power? You do. By attending the local precinct caucuses, you choose officers and delegates who will be your "voice". By staying away, you relinquish control of the government to whomever attends the meeting with a special spe-cial agenda. Truly, "America is governed by those who show up!" Anyone may attend, but only those who live within the precinct and are registered Republicans may be nominated for an office at the Republican caucuses. Voter registration forms will be available at the meetings. Locations of meeting sites for various parties may be obtained from major newspapers and the Utah Lt. Governor's web page.
