' ; I Bryce Valley and Escalante boys battled in Tropic on Friday night last week with Escalante winning win-ning the game 84-65. Hie Moquis got behind By John Yardley The Escalante boys and girls teams each posted wins over the -weekend as the boys swept past Bryce Valley 84-65 and the girls defeated Valley 29-24 and beat Wasatch Academy 52-36. Jim Smith's .boys team won for the fifth time in six league games in a big way at Tropic. The Moquis got behind early, but rallied back behind Ryan Cottam's 25, Jared Smith's 19, and Ivan Sighns 11. For Bryce Valley, Shannon Pollock Pol-lock led the scoring with 14. The Mustangs were forced to foul and the Moquis made them pay. Escalante and Panguitch are now tied for third in league play and it sets up a huge game Friday night in Escalante as the Moquis host the Bobcats. The Moquis girls team had the low scoring affair with Valley, but early, but rallied from behind with the help cf Ryan Cottam's 25 points, Jared Smith's 19 and Ivan Singhs 11.- ,; ' Escalante Boys And Girls Teams Both Win came back to play very well against a vastly improved WA team. Jamie Lyman hit for 14, Becky Crawford 11 and Sarah Rollins 10 to give coach Angie Alvey a balanced attack at-tack on Saturday. In other girls play, Panguitch defeated Bryce Valley at Panguitch High School. Camille Christensen scored 19, Pepper Hatch 13 and Ronda Hatch 12, to lead the Bobcats. Bob-cats. Amy Johnson had eight for Bryce Valley while Sheena Clark hit for seven and added 10 blocked shots. For county boys teams, Bryce Valley lost 65-55 at Milford despite a 36-point performance from Shannon Shan-non Pollock. BV was locked in a 31-31 tie at the half, but the Tigers are tough at home and moved to the victory in the second half. John Shakespear and Eric Clarke each scored 10. Panguitch boys lost to the Valley Val-ley Buffaloes at Orderville 57-50 and 59-50 to Wayne at home, both games saw the bobcats lose in the final period after leading after three -quarters.
