Show Panguitch Dead Animal Pit Now Being Opened PANGUITCH Garfield County has announced the opening of a newly permitted dead animal pit northeast of Panguitch. Located at the east end of the Second Cross Lane, the new facility is a result of the ongoing need to adequately dispose dis-pose of dead animals created in ranching operations. The former facility, located near the Panguitch Airport, was closed nearly two years ago as a result of new federal regulations and administrative adminis-trative changes within the Bureau of Land Management. Waste generators genera-tors continued to use the closed facility; fa-cility; and Garfield County, in an effort to avoid a public nuisance and health hazard, periodically maintained main-tained the site. The County has announced that beginning Oct. 1, 1996, it will no longer be responsible for animals dumped at the airport facility and will concentrate its efforts on the newly permitted site. The County is currently accepting accept-ing proposals for operation of the new facility. Permit requirements for the dead animal pit include a locked gate, covering of dead animals ani-mals and accurate record keeping. County residents may use the facility without charge and the county has established a disposal fee of $3 per animal for non-residents. Information about the facility facil-ity can be obtained from Garfield County Engineer Brian Bremner at (801) 676-8826, Ext. 119. |
