Show High School Honors Senior Citizens Two senior citizens were honored by presentation of the annual Candles at the Pangultch High School Cantata. Recipients of the honors were Mr. J. Frank Houston and Mrs. Margaret Foy. Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Foy, more commonly known among us as "Aunt Maggie", is 85 years of age, and a lifelong resident of the Pangultch area. She was born May 24, 1875 to Nells P. and Ingra Crlstlna Ipson, one of thirteen children. She was married to M. William Foy, a farmer and llvcstocker in Pangultch, They were the parents of 8 children, 5 of which are still living. Mr. Foy died In 1917 of a heart condition and left Mrs. Foy with five young children to rear. She has been a widow for 43 years. Her children have all gone to higher education and one fulfilled an LDS Church mission. At present Hilda F. ' Gardner and Joseph arc educators; Clarence, a livestock-man and former county commissioner; M. V., a buslness- ma and former youngest mayor In Pangultch: and a daughter Mary In Colorado. Mrs. J. Frank Houston and Mrs. Margaret E. Foy Foy has 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. Mrs. Foy was Garfield County Recorder for 21 years, Stake , Relief Society worker for 20 years, Primary worker aiii a Relief Society teacher for 40 years. Aunt Maggie nas always been a great reader, maintained her home, yards and garden, and never has had a delinquent tax .notice. At the age of 85 years, she still enjoys good health. J. Frank Houston was born June 10, 1886 to Christina Schow and Thomas Houston In Panguitch. At the age of 18 he was called on an LDS mission to the Northern States. He spent 30 months there. Prior to this he was cm-ployed as a clerk in the Garfield Exchange Store, and on returning home this was the occupation he chose as his livelihood. He has been a merchant for 60 years. He has also worked as a farmer and cattle man. He married Hoeno Syrett June 5, 1912 in the Salt Lake Temple. To them were born 12 children, 7 girls and 5 boys, 11 of whom are living and married: Irene McEwen, Jay, Fern Crawford, Dee, Opal Miller, Ceclle Orton, all of Pangultch: Rocno Nelson, Dr. Sam C, of Calif; Zelda Gcrst-ner, Christine Owens, Salt Lake; Ray S., St.' George. Ho was YMMIA Stake Sup-crlntendant, Sunday School counselor, High Council man; at the present time he Is a High Priest and Sunday School teacher. He was supervisor of Church Welfare until he had a heart attack and had to retire. Mr. Houston was mayor for 2 terms, county commissioner for one term, and city councilman for many years. At the age of 74 years he still keeps busy. |
