Show deer hunters urged to aa aid d in counting deer killed during durl ng 1939 hunting season with haulters hiu itera all over the state preparing for the annual deer hunting season which will open saturday october 21 there la Is con sid erable question as to the feasibility of killing the female or hornless deer being allowed by the board of big game control in most instances Ins the question arises among sportsmen and those who have hao put forth a long and hard bard fight in ili order to build the states big game berds to their present number according to records in 1020 1920 there yire were but OM elk and deer in tile the state this was following the origination ot of the buck law I diw which was margrat eel ed in 1013 1913 together with closed areas tit in several sections of the state Ther therefore etore the 1920 count of deer lit in the state was somewhat more than had been or would have been the alie case some few years yeara previous according to surveys made during 1038 there were elk and iba deer lit in the state late this in creta crease e has caused considerable conald emble concern among stockmen stoc kmen and they have been making a consert cd tight fight toward it a dec decrease roase lu in leer deer and elk herds in ili most sections sec tlona of the state tile the result la Is that during the laist niec meeting ting of the state board of big game control it was waa decided that in addition to the buck anck deer which would be killed during the coming coining season there would bo be hornless deer and elk kill ed N no 0 particular specifications have been made as to just how bow this shall be accomplished but it la is generally understood that permits will be offered for that amount and if permits are not sold and the deer and elk are no not t kill ed during the regular season a special eki hunt will be carried out and the stipulated number of deor deer and elk will be killed just who will be allow corl to kill those animals not taken by hunters during the season has not been stated but the fact remains that the impression sion Is that we the number will be killed in spite r 4 any outside action or efforts or of any faction there deenis to be little complaint toward the killing of hornless deer during the regular season but there fire are many who feel that it a special season for the lall lilt jag of doe deer will not only mean that ninny many of the anti nals taken will be unfit for uso use but that it will prove a detriment to the deer population of the state for this reason hunters are being urged by many boget to get their doe permits and to make biake use of themi them they tire are being urged in many sec eions to bring in III tight right ears of every big game animal they find killed and to report all kills to the ganie game wardens if this la Is done it Is thought that it will result in doing awny away with the necessity of a special hunting season to iro waily sportsmen who have apell blent t at great deal of effort toward educating residents and building up dpn a feeling toward protection for wildlife this sans to be quite a letdown they feel that they have expended efforts toward building up ili an ample deer supply only to lieve a group stell sp lit in and tear down what they have spent much effort to construct on alvi other hand there are bany who feel thai that tile the number of deer to lit bu killed Is not enough and that several thousand anre would be nearer the necessary fig tire lire stockmen Stoc kmen especially feel that the deer and elk are arc taking their range and driving them out of existence they complain that there ore no taxes paid on deer population but that there Is on sheep and cattle population they complain that deer and elk run on tho the range the alio year round around and consequently quent ly take more feed than do db domesticated animals both sides be right and it would seem that this Is 18 ono one of those cases when there Is a your side my side and the right side aide however under the circumstances it would seem scein that the only thing for sportsmen to to do Is to isee that till nil of tile deer taken this year are taken lit in a sportsmanlike manner and ana under proper supervision sportsmen should cooperate in seeing ledng that pint every deer taken from the lie forests or tiny any other section la Is ch chocked echoed and counted there are two ways in ili which the latter can call in ile accomplished in ill many thero there will be checking under tle tile direction of the state fish and game department part ment arid and allied departments where deer will be chocked checked and counted in sm sec tlona where there are no ito checking stations station the hunter should personally perm nally see se to it that III ills tak tag Is checked into tile tho state alii and guino gaine when toga tags tire sent to tho the state stale fish and etame commission by tho the in divia toll mil there would bo be no harm in writing a report of the dead car ca cusses ases seen such a report could tell sex approximate and condition of killed deer seen there are many who will disagree with tills this latter suggest suggestion joli and will complain that they will be putting them themselves wIves la in a a bad light mill ivar ilens dens true should overlook this fact und and consider that jt it has haa been their muney money to a great extent which lins has mado it possible for gaille wardens to have jobs and draw good ml if theao ganie wardens and game officials w who ho have beert bi cn receiving imy from tile of oc tho the state wish to 11 1 bite the hand which has been aiding to fowl them let them bite now then let tho sporN sportsmen men re tal linte by putting them eliere they bi long for ull oil
