Show Nora Pearson Looks To 104th Birthday Panguitch's No. 1 senior citizen, Nora Pearson, will be 104 years old on Dec. 5. The sprightly centenarian still gets around although now she smiles and says she has "six legs instead of two" (she uses a walker). Nora was born Dec. 5, 1880 in Glenwood, to John and Julia Ann Buchanan. She married Joseph Pearson Dec. 7, 1898 in Lyman, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. The Pearsons lived on a farm in Circleville where they reared their family of three boys and three girls. Two sons are deceased: Homer and Joe. Son Harold still lives in Circleville. Daughters are Mrs. Louis (Delia) Eck, Crescent City, Calif.; Mrs. John (Addie) McDonald, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Mrs. George (Thora) Proctor, Panguitch. Mrs. Perason's husband died in 1935 and she has been a widow for the past 9 years. She has 17 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Her health is still good and permits her a variety of activities. She has a pleasant disposition and loves children, often singing with them and telling them stories. When she was young herself, horseback riding was a favorite pasttime. She says she wouldn't mind trying it again. She still does emboirdery work and loves quilting. Many of the lovely quilts she makes are given to friends. She also loves to read, Nora Pearson although she is now blind in one eye. Always active in the LDS Church, she was a Relief Society teacher for many years. She lives now with daughter Thora and Thora's husband George in Panguitch. A luncheon to celebrate her birthday will be held at the Senior Citizens' Center in the basement of the courthouse in Panguitch on Dec. 5 at noon. An open house following lunch will be held until 3 p.m. Anyone wanting to join the celebration in time for lunch should make reservations by Wednesday morning by calling Faye Worthen at 676-2260, Afton Church at 676-2220, or the Senior Citizen Center at 676-2281. |
