The vac-' vac-' Lg is relatively new and this will be r foe first time it has been administered ad-ministered in the county. l) Haemophilus influenza (called H T flu) Type B affects only about one 9 nercent of children under six, but the children afflicted have a serious long term effects. H flu is the 1 number one cause of mental n retardation in America, stemming from meningitis resulting from H flu Epiglottitis (which closes the child's breathing tubes), arthritis, r heart and tissue infections, re pneumonia and blood poisoning are of all caused by H. flu. Children attending nursery schools or day care centers have a four times greater risk of developing these infections. Garfield Memorial Hospital's Infection Control Committee Com-mittee recommends the immunization im-munization of all children ages 2-6, unless a child has been allergic to other immunizations. The vaccine will be available on a first come, first serve basis in Panguitch (Garfield Clinic) Feb. 14 through Mar. 15. During that time, individuals in outlying areas may contact their local clinis (Kazan, Circle ville, Long Valley, or Bryce Valley) so the vaccine can be administered ad-ministered locally. The vaccine will cost $20 per child, a' small price to pay, say medical experts, considering the serious nature of the disease it prevents. |
