Show Letter To The Editor bditor, News: There have been numerous questions in our clinic about 'flu shots' to prevent influenza. Influenza Is an acute respiratory tract infection caused by a specific virus. The Illness Is different from the common cold' or bacterial Infection and can be quite serious. Since a very effective vaccine with few side effects Is available, it Is important that people who would be sicker If they contacted Influenza be Immunized each year to prevent this Illness. ' The United States Public Health Service strongly recommended that people In the below mentioned categories be Immunized each year by means of a single shot which should be given sometime in the next several weeks and each year thereafter. Persons of all ages with chronic rheumatic heart disease or cardio vascular disease, chronic lung disease, or diabetes mellitus. People 65 years or older and anyone with a chronic illness all these should receive the flu shot. The only people who cannot be Immunized are those who are allergic to eggs. If you fall Into these categories, you can come to the Garfield Memorial Clinic any week day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. without an appointment and get your flu shot with minimal waiting. The fee is $3.00. Stanley J.Bezek Harry J. Cavanagh Donald A. Lappe |
