Show aCACANTEINEWS LEGAL MICE* PRODUCERS Marlene Haws 826-4859 or marleneh@color-countty.net The Boulder Heritage Festival drew some of our local people from Escalante on Friday, July 15th and Saturday July 16th. Brent Griffin and Ted Engberg were two of the musicians featured on Friday with their singing, accompanied by Brent on the guitar. I didn't go on Friday but my son, Robert, and I attended on Saturday and it was a very pleasant afternoon. Some of the Escalante people I saw there were: Marion and Peggy Spencer, Jimmy and Brenda Woolsey, Arnold and Deon Alvey, Brent Cottam (who was working in his store while his employees helped with the festival), Doran and Patricia Lyman, Jerry and Sherree Roundy, Susan Nelson, Drew, Mary and John Parkin. The Parkins were there especially to see Mary's brother who was a member of the four piece band from Salt Lake which, by the way, was very good. Others we visited with were: Renon Peterson, her granddaughter, Jamie Porter and a grandson, Jimmy Dean Peterson; Conrad Jepsen, son of Connie and Alfred Jepsen; Fay Jepsen and Geneveive Weir, who is Fay's sister visiting from Philadelphia, Penn.; Wyatt Jepsen, Fay's son and Justin Jepsen and family. Justin is a son of Fred Jepsen, another of Fay's sons. Vernon Roundy, Monroe; Gene and Renon Reed and Dianne Pearce, Richfield; Kevin and Kollette Cox and family, Cedar City were there to support Steve and Cheryl Cox, who live in Boulder now and play a big part in the Festival. Karen (Griffin) Palmer and Katie Ballard were there to help also. We enjoyed listening to Raymond Shurtz and Camille Hall who are both talented Boulder musicians and write and sing their own songs. Camille says her husband, Doug, is her band. Now, since I was only there for half a day, I see I'm getting in way over my head because I realize there were so many others who participated in the planning and carrying out of details for this whole celebration and I do not have names. I just want to tell them all it was very well done and the bake oven meal Saturday evening was wonderful! Thank you. Back to Escalante Sylvia and Monte Luker, Salt Lake, were the guests of Eve and Sharon Dale Marsh for a day or two. Too bad they didn't stay for the 24th of July celebration. I, for one, would have liked to hear Monte recite the poem of "Freedom Isn't Free" again. He does a great job with that. Things were hoppin' at the home of Ben and Renee Porter this past week. Half of their kids, I think they said their daughters and their families, were here. The other half, the sons (?) and their families will be here for the 24th of July celebration. Calvin and Martha Schow went to Salt Lake to be with the family of their daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Chad Homer. Their grandson, Trenton Homer had just returned from his LDS Mission to Maryland. Stephanie and Chad had picked him up in Maryland, then they toured to New York City, Washington D. C. and the surrounding areas before returning home. After Trenton had spoken in Sacrament meeting in Salt Lake, Grandpa and Grandma Schow brought him home to Escalante with them and the rest of the Homer family will be here for the 24th of July weekend. Arnold and Deon Alvey went to Gunnison for a doctor appointment. They will be having a house full for the holiday. Dave and Raylene Whitefield are already here from Las Vegas, Nev. And Jan Duncan is bringing her two little granddaughters from Loa to join in with them for the weekend. Tionna Chynoweth hosted a bridal shower for Kelsey Torgersen last week. (From what I hear Kelsey can return the favor before long for Tionna!) Kelsey and Mayson Southwick will be getting married in the St. George Temple on Saturday the 6th of August. Kelsey is the daughter of Alan and Melani Torgersen. Mayson is the son of Greg and Robyn Southwick, Monroe. Congratulations to the happy couple! There have been some new releases and new callings in the 2nd Ward Relielf Society. Released were: Pres. Donna Chynoweth; Counselors, Dixie Mitchell and Kasey Hatch and Sec. Rose Bailey. New callings: Pres. Sabrina Hughes; counselors, Lois Barney and Do- \?4 '-C neen Griffin; Sec. Kelleen Owen. We wish them all the best. Lillian Lyman has been in California with her daughter Wendy Meisenbach, but she is back home again. Wendy and David are here for the holiday and to bring Lillian back home. Harriet Priska and her mom, Winnie Washburn, were featured in the August Guidepost Magazine. All about a cute motherdaughter connection and her mom's inventive ways in the kitchen to whip up a new salad recipe out of next to nothing in the refrigerator. My son, Robert, and I went to Salina and stayed overnight with my daughter Jillyn Sorensen and family. We brought her two daughters, Devyn and Shaylynn back as far as Panguitch where we met Elisa (Cottam) Lyman and her two little ones, then the two girls went home, to Kanab, with Elisa and they will all come to Escalante for the 24th .. On our way home Robert and I visited with Lynn and Judy Griffin and Kent and Laura Cottam at "The Pines" Restaurant where we had all stopped for a bite to eat! The family of Danny and Lois Spencer had their family reunion recently at the Mamouth campground on Cedar Mountain. Their family circle is getting larger each year. Lois says between now and January they will have eight new great grand babies. I had a wedding announcement hand delivered to me from Cedar City. Shanna Porter and her daughter, Jacee, brought it to let me know about the wedding of Jacee and David Tyson McGrath on August 6, 2011. Jacee's parents are Clint and Shanna Porter. Her grandparents are Vergean and Carolyn Porter, Escalante and Renon Peterson of Boulder. David's parents are David and Misty Bulloch and Kelly and Amber McGrath. Congratulations to them. We wish them much happiness. It looks like a lot of people will be here again for the celebration this year. Please call me if you have reunions, family or friends here. I am getting lots of messages telling me how good it is to hear about all of you again, so PLEASE help me!
