Show The Garfield County Insider =§111111CH AG MARKET NEWS It breaks my heart to report this but, it affects all of the people in Garfield County, Janice Hatch Garfield County School Superintendent announced her retirement plans, effective Dec. 31 2010. Janice has been with the district for 28 years and is very well known throughout the State in the academic world. She taught high school and was very popular, because she related with the students both as a motivator and a teacher that got the most out of students. Janice was over the FHA (Future Homemakers of America) since replaced by FCCLA. Under her guidance the students went to Nationals often. Later in her career she went into administration. Two years ago, Janice was asked to take over the Superintendents job. She excelled at all she did. She will be missed. God bless you Janice, you are one of a kind. Tomorrow is the Kids Halloween Parade; they start at the elementary school and go around the block. The best viewing is on the corner at Joe's Market. Bring your camera; the Kids are really something to see. The administration, teachers and staff also add to the fun. Enrollment at the Panguitch Schools on October 1 was : the Elementary School at 260, Middle School at 82 and the High School at 120. There are 48 students in the Kindergarten; Mrs. Barney has her hands full. Many of the businesses owners that I have talked to say they have had a good year. The Shed, a new store in town, has been holding their own. If you haven't gotten your trophy deer for your den, this year the Shed can fill your need. With Christmas coming up the Shed, has everything for the sportsman in your family. Shop locally when you can, 60 percent of the money taken in stays here, as does 2% of the tax. Craig Payne and his son Josh, (just back from Iraq) got an cow elk early in the week, what a nice homecoming. Vince Salvato who raises sheep for a hobby, out on his ranch near Hatch, was loading them to take them to Arizona. He has 4 rams and one has a broken horn that is pointed, well the ram speared Vince in the leg and did enough damage to send him to the hospital. Vince had a reaction to the antibiotics and was very sick. The sheep were still shipped off, but they won't be back. Finally some good news from the Alton Coal mine, I learned from the gathering place (Leland's Chevrons) that two people from our area have jobs there. The American Legion is again hosting the Veterans dinner at the Flying M restaurant on November 11, at 6:00 pm. All Veterans and their spouses are invited. Also we would be honored to all the widows of Veterans if you would come. The Ladies Auxiliary members are also invited guests. The meal will be at no cost and there will be entertainment. Please RSVP so we can get a count (6762418). The Panguitch Elementary School will be honoring the Veterans in our area on 11-11 at 1:30, please plan on coming. Hug a teacher. Mack 0. October 28, 2010 EIMADIAIIII EWISMSMILW by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Sandy Johnson rode up to Provo with her daughter, Ruth Carter and her four children. They went to the care center where Sandy's mother, Wanda Lifferth, celebrated her 90th birthday. Wanda had 10 of her 13 children and other family members and friends there to join in the celebration. Afterwords, Sandy and Ruth, traveled on to Tooele to help tend the Bradshaw children while their parents, Brady & Sarah, vacationed in Playo Del Carmen, Mexico. Before Sandy and Ruth returned home the family members all joined together to celebrate the first birthday of Jayden, son of Jed & Rosana Johnson. A busy trip. Congratulations to Stacey Matthews who was called as a counselor in the Young Women of the Cannonville Ward. Rob & Sally Goulding have received a Mission call to serve in Samoa for eighteen months. Rob is a former Bryce Area resident and will be remembered by many. His sister is La Dora Baugh of Tropic. Congratulations to the Gouldings. The flu shots at Ruby's Inn brought out a lot of people. Sometimes we have to go to places like getting shots to be able to say "Hi" to friends and neighbors because we get so busy we don't stop. Hope you all took advantage of the free flu shots offered. The Senior Citizen Bus was kept busy. Dorie Baugh and Dana Courtright, along with Emilee Courtright, traveled to Castle Rock Colorado for a few days over the UEA break to visit with daughters and sisters, Jana and Cari and family. The trip was fun and everyone had a great time. The Crafts Fair held at Ebenezer's was successful. There were a lot of booths and some very good stuff was displayed and sold. Jot it down on your calendar for next year at this time so you don't miss all the wonderful things that are shown. Good work to Janice Twitchell and Cailee Syrett on putting this together. Callen and Melissa Barton had a very nice reception. They had a display showing the wedding pictures of their parents and grandparents along with theirs and it was very nice. Congratulations to the newlyweds. Cannonville and Tropic Ward had their Primary Programs today and they are always so enjoyable to attend. The kids are cute and do their parts so well. Henrieville will be having theirs next week. Congratulations to the leaders who do such a great job of working with all these young people. The Henrieville Youth had a cookout at the Henrieville Park. They used the fire pit that Brian Clark built for his Eagle project. It was a very nice evening. Frankie and Gayle Moore took son Wade and his friend Becky to Salt Lake to attend the Soccer game between the Salt Lake Real and Mexico City's Cruz Azul. It was a sold out game played in Sandy. It was Wade's wish to do that for his birthday and everyone enjoyed the trip. Corning home late at night was a nightmare going through the road construction in the Provo area. One lane of traffic that took forever to move. They were glad to finally get home safely. Congratulations to Lorelie Adkins and her family on finally being able to move into their beautiful new home. Many familiar faces in the area that have come for the deer hunt. We see the Henry Jolley crew in their cabin and we are sure there are many others around. Hope everyone stays safe and sound. Just a little updating on the Henrieville Firehouse. Dave and Stephanie Roberts went to Florida a couple of weeks ago to do a final inspection on the fire truck that was ordered for our new firehouse. It is now completed and is in Salt Lake. The town will be sending someone up there shortlly for some training and to bring the fire truck home. There have been a couple of offers for a building to put the truck in until our fire station can be built, but the town hasn't made a for sure decision on where the truck will be housed. The bids for the new fire house should be opened next week and a contractor chosen as soon as there can have a bid opening and review. The town has gone through the bid process once before but all the bids came in over budget so they made some changes and started the process again. Henrieville has someone who is in the process of getting materials so that the roads can have some much needed repairs. This will make it much nicer driving in Henrieville. The roads in Cannonville are still torn up and the people are working to get the curbs and gutters put in so the town will have sidewalks. Well the cold weather is upon us and furnaces and fireplaces are being put to use. Too early for that. Maybe we will have a good winter full of water for our reservoirs. "Doing nothing is very hard to do - - you will never know when you are finished." (Leslie Nielsen) Have a great week and be sure to attend the Halloween Carnival next Saturday with your kids. Syrett our team did its very best. We are proud of them. Coaches Scott Barton and Nathan Platt along with Principal Jeff Brinkerhoff were there to encourage the team as they participated. Taylor Talbot, the lone girl, carne in 34th place. Adam Platt was 15th, Joshua Rose 36th, Taryn Syrett 68th, Cajun Syrett took 84th and Braxton Syrett came in at 87th. This was the first time in many, many years that one of our teams qualified in Cross Country to go to State and they worked hard. They are all looking forward to next year when they have more experience. The PTA Halloween Carnival/Trunk or Treat is this Saturday, the 30th of October at 4:00 until 5:30 in the Bryce Valley Gym. Clark's Planetarium came to the Elementary School and ran some large group activities. The worked with magnetism, electricity, and air. The students were taught to be observant in their work. The people also went to each classroom and did a class on the Planets and the Solar System. It was a good day and they did a great job. Have a great week and report your school news.
