Show The Garfield County Insider Page 6 71st Annual Southern Utah Junior Livestock Show Insurance, Century Equip- The new fairground facilities might still be under construction, but this year’s Southern Utah Junior Livestock show was a success for 166 youth showing animals from Sevier, Wayne, Piute and Garfield counties. All together, some 230 animals, along with their owners, were the first to test out the new facilities as they worked their way through the process of fitting and showmanship, judging and the auction which took place over a three day period. The livestock show is a large part of the Sevier County Fair which took place August 5-8 in Richfield. Awards were given Thursday evening at the Buyer and Exhibitor Awards Dinner by show president Lynette Robinson and members of each committee. Curt Smith is chairman of the hog committee with members: Brian Brewer, Ryan Christensen, Brent Coates, Boyd Cook, Kerry Cook Randy Blackburn, Steve Peterson, Shayne Barney and McKay Jensen. Scott Christensen is chairman of the sheep committee along with Russel Christensen, Wes Erickson, Greg Excell, Sid Nielson, Kirk Robinson, Bart Cowley, Wayne Cowley, John Hunt, Gerald Talbot, Sara Phelps, Chanley Olcott and Jessica Grundy. Keith Hampton chairs the beef committee with the help of Scott Gurney, Brent Robins, Jim Shaw, Don Peterson and Jason Goble. Because the participants represent either 4-H or FFA, they were required to wear official dress for all events which include solid white shirts and black, blue or white pants, along with either a 4-H emblem or FFA emblem, jacket and tie. Those who participate in the fitting and showmanship contest receive a SUJLS t-shirt. Wednesday’s main event was the Fitting & Showmanship Contest.
