Show The Garfield County Insider Page 2 July 16, 2009 ENTERTAINMENT & EVENTS 30th Annual Cannonville Bear Festival & Old Time Fiddlers Saturday, July 18, 2009 Cannonville City Park Dinner: 5:00 p.m. Dutch Oven Potatoes, Chicken Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Homemade Root Beer Fiddlers: 7:00 p.m. All proceed benefit Boy Scouts of America, Troop 690 PHYSICIANS AND TRAINERS PROVIDE PHYSICALS FOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES Summer is coming to an end and fall sporting activities will be starting soon. That means it is time for high school athletes to get their physical examinations. Athletes planning to participate in district-sponsored sports and dance teams are required to complete a physical. Intermountain Healthcare’s sports medicine professionals and other healthcare professionals in the community will provide physicals for interested athletes on the dates listed below. Physicians and certified athletic trainers conduct the physicals and can answer questions and advise about how to avoid sports-related injuries. Physicals will be available at: Hurricane High School, July 26 at 6 p.m. in the gym Dixie High School, July 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the main gym Desert Hills High School, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the gym There is a $20 fee per physical, all of which will be donated to the host school. Participants may download the form to take with them from the Utah High School Athletic Association Website at www.uhsaa.org/forms. GSENM WALKS & TALKS July looks to be a grand month for Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s 2009 Walks & Talks series of lectures and field trips. All programs are free and co-sponsored by Grand Staircase Escalante Partners. HAVING FUN WITH GPS ~ Thursday, July 23, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Escalante Interagency Visitor Center Join NPS Park Ranger Pete Christensen for an evening of GPS fun and learn how to improve your outdoor experience with the help of GPS. You may bring your own GPS, but it is not required. Call the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center (435) 826-5499 for more information. Garfield County’s 4-H horse clubs the Boulder Broncs and Escalante Cool Riders plus the lone rider from Panguitch participated in a point counting show at Ruby’s Inn Arena in Bryce Canyon City. Congratulations to everyone! The seniors were Lindsey Coleman (Boulder), Zoee Johnson (Boulder), Kelsie Nelson (Boulder), and Kayenta Ryan (Boulder); the intermediates were Audrey Austin (Boulder), Jared Noyes (Escalante), and Willow Ryan (Boulder); and the juniors were Andrea Heaton (the lone rider from Pan- guitch), Alexxia Johnson (Boulder), and KrysTelle Noyes (Escalante). Andrea Heaton came in first in the written test, Alexxia Johnson came in first in the speed events and overall with 114 points, and KrysTelle Noyes came in first in the show events. Jared Noyes and Willow Ryan tied for the overall second place with 86 points! Audrey Austin placed first overall (117 points) with a first place in the written test and the speed events. Kelsie Nelson came in first overall with 93 points, Zoee Johnson came in first place in Western Pleasure, Lindsey Coleman came in first in the speed events, and Kayenta Ryan placed first in the written test. Special thank you to Ruby’s Inn, Lance Syrett, Brady Syrett, and Gary Ryan Bales (judge). Also thank you to Cassie Lyman and to all the parents and everyone else who helped at the show. Unfortunately we did not have the “Mylers” present – we hope to see them at the next show in Panguitch at the Triple C Arena on July 31st, 2009 4PM. Thank you and good job everyone!
