All twelve of Volleyball Coach Troy Norris’ team ran in the meet, and proved they can do more than spike a ball. In the boys division, the Bobcats perennial first place finisher Trac Norris, did it again. Trac also ran in the BYU Autumn Classic Saturday, finishing 5th, behind runners from 4A and 5A schools. Katie Rosser competed in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, and placed a very respectable 19th. VOLLEYBALL The Lady Bobcats opened their 2008 defense of their state crown on a positive note, with wins over Escalante, Milford, and Bryce Valley. Wednesday, September 10, they host Valley and travel Friday to Piute. RILEY TAYLOR GRAND SLAMS PIUTE Riley Taylor, (better known as R.T. to his teammates) set the tone for the Bobcats 14 to 4 mauling of the T Birds Wednesday, with a first inning grand slam home run over the right field fence. R.T. Added another RBI later in the Game for a total of five on the day. Brooks Leach pitched the first four innings, allowing just 2 earned runs and whiffing nine batters, to get the win. Trac Norris came on to shut out Piute in the final inning. Trac also had a 3 for 4 day at the plate, as did Trevor Peterson. Bryce Taylor chalked up a perfect day with the bat with two hits and a base on balls in three trips to the dish. Panguitch is now 2 and 0 in Region play. In other Region 15 games, Escalante lost to Valley and Wayne defeated Bryce Valley. BADGERS CLAW BOBCATS C M Y K The number one team in the State came to town Friday, and the Wayne Badgers proved they deserved that ranking by downing the Panguitch Bobcats 17 to 4. Trevor Peterson was the main pitching victim of the onslaught, although to be completely fair, teammates miscues led to giving Wayne five outs in two of the four innings he worked. Trevor and Riley Miller were the bright spots in the Cats offense, with Trevor chipping in with a pair of doubles, a base on balls, and two runs scored in four trips to the plate. Riley, who has not struck out in 12 times at bat, had a three for four day at the dish. Panguitch Is now at 2 and 1 in region play and travel to Valley Wednesday and Escalante Friday. In other area contests, Bryce Valley garnered their first Region win of the season, squeaking past Escalante 9 to 8, at Tropic. Dusty Ahlstrom went the distance on the mound, fanning 10 Moquis, while Lynden Sudweeks put the game on ice for the Mustangs with a clutch RBI base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. Escalante’s Roundy led the Moqui hitting with a double and a triple. 2008 Schedule of Events The Fifth Annual Escalante Canyons Art Festival will take place September 21 - 28, 2008 in Escalante and Boulder.
