Mr. Palmer wrote in his letter to the Board, "My resignation clears the way for the Board to appoint Mr. Ken Platt to complete the remaining weeks of my term of office with his own four year term commencing in January 2007. I have the highest regard for Ken and believe he will continue our tradition of capable leadership for the children of Garfield County." Barton Palmer intends to pursue a wide range of activities and interests as he steps down from the Board. These include serving as the Bryce Valley High School Assistant Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. Superintendent Park describes Mr. P ilmer as a capable School Board Presid nt whose strong voice on behalf of the c lildren of Garfield County will be both remembered and missed. During his tenure as Board President, the District has completed multiple construction and remodeling projects. Barton has also been active in providing leadership for the new elementary school construction in Antimony. Barton Palmer concludes his letter to the Board by stating, "I will sincerely miss my association with each of you, and I wish you well in your continuing efforts to provide a world class education for each f j i s n in Gatfjejd County." plateofdreams@scinternet.net I am really missing out on a lot of things going on. The sun has been shining but the wind has been cold. I know when 1 hang my clothes out on the line they have to freeze before they start to dry. Just about 3 weeks left to do that Christmas shopping. I've been trying to make all the gifts that our family is giving out this year. I'm not sure its going to get done. From what I understand our Moqui teams have been winning about half of the games and matches that have been going on. Dec. 7th will be the "Meet the Players Night" for both the Girls and Boys teams. There will be a Moqui Shootout, a raffle for 2 season tickets for both the boys and girls games. This will be $2.00 per person or $5.00 per family. This will begin at 7:00 P.M. at Escalante High School. Come join in the fun. For the next little while, I'd like to put in a few secrets on how to make a marriage last 50 years. If you have suggestions please call me or e-mail me your secret. "Made ya Think" 1. Put the needs of the other first. Learn net to expect the best all the time, sometimes you have to settle. 2. Don't let money ruin your relationship. One person handle the finances, but both make the decisions. 3. Learn how to get along. You may argue, but you still learn to live together peaceably. Answer for last weeks "Made ya think" is, Charter night for the Escalante Lions Club was held on Friday, January 26. 1945, with H.J.Allen being installed as president. He served for two years during which the club made filings on the Escalante River water with tentative plans for building a reservoir that would supply water for the present and future needs. Have a good week! ATTENTION CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS HERE IS A GREAT IDEA! 435-491-0223 Page 4 GARFIELD COUNTY DIRECTORY OF SERVICES Garfield Businesses, & Entities: We are starting on year # 3 of the Garfield County directory of services that are placed in over 650 of the motel rooms throughout Garfield County extending from one end of the county to the other. This potentially presents your business to about 150,000 people each year. We have had many success stories from businesses. Some of the tourists are driving all the way across the county to visit business they have seen in the directory. We made the commitment to place these in all the motels willing to participate, and we completed the majority of the 2006 project in April. We are currently preparing to update these directories for new businesses that would like to jump on board, and designing new advertisements for businesses that would like any changes. The directory helps those traveling through our area to know what services are available. This project meets the following needs: 1) Those who visit our area, look for services available, (i.e. What to do, where to eat, where to go.) Many times, due to the lack of knowing where these services are or how to find them... they become unaccomodated, and travel right through the area. 2) This will allow businesses, located on the main route, and business that aren't on the main route, to have access to being seen. 3) Create an avenue for larger attendance to seasonal events. This project is supported.by both the Garfield Travel Council, and the Garfield County Commissioners, as well as over fifty business owners. We thank them for their support of this project. As a bonus, we will be spotlighting one of these businesses each week in The Garfield County INSIDER to show our appreciation for their support. If you would like to participate or would just like more information, please call us at 435-676-2621. We will come out and consult with you, and take pictures for your color advertisement, Thank you, Snapshot Multimedia ..', |
