All high schools in the county district have been invited to participate in a lively competition on knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. The purpose of the Constitution Bowl is to promote patriotism in every school and to help convey the essential truths contained in our founding documents. The TARs goal is to instill in youth a pride in being citizens of the United States of America. The questions given to the 4 member high school teams will cover the period from 1777 to 1789, and will include events leading up to the Constitutional Convention. Patriotic medallions will be presented to the team that exhibits the greatest understanding of the Constitution. The school that sends the winning team will be awarded an original painting of the American Eagle in upward flight that was painted by a talented 15 year old Utah student, Megan Magleby. Donated scholarships will send the winners to the statewide Roots of Freedom Bowl in the Spring, 2007. The public is invited to attend the non partisan event. All attendees will be able to sign individual 'Christmas Greetings Banners' that will be sent immediately to Garfield active duty servicemen. Anyone who knows of a local soldier who would like a giant holiday card from the folks back home is asked to contact Elaine Baldwin (435-676-2403) with the name and address. Students wishing to participate in the Bowl are asked to sign up with Pete Christensen at EHS, Mikki Thompson at BVHS, or Constitutional Bowl Chairman Ronnie Cooper at PHS. Many Americans have only a slight understanding of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the later amendments to which we pledge our allegiance. The TARs program is designed to motivate the next generation of citizens to study the background, creation, and history of the unique system WEATHER of government brought into 44«F being by those governed. 10% ' • • .
