Let'd hope they soon do the same from where they stopped to Interstate 15. Don Bridges stopped by last evening to inform me of the sudden death of Trampas Gilbert, son of Chris and Maria Gilbert (owners of the Cowboy Smokehouse Restaraunt in Panguitch). Trampas was attending a school in Dallas, Texas to learn to become a diesel mechanic and suffered a massive heart attack. Two of Don's children and their spouses, Martin & Shaniel Bridges (Panguitch & Joel & Brandi VanLuven (Provo) are traveling to Oklahoma City to attend the funeral for Trampas on June 3rd. Martin & Shaniel were very close friends to Trampas and were notified of his death by his parents. Trampas leaves behind an expectant wife and four young children. I have been told that because of his heart condition, Trampas was unable to obtain life insurance so efforts are being made for friends (and others) to contribute to a fund to help this young family in their time of grief and need. Hilma Excell received a congratulatory letter informing her that her son, Evan K. Excell, is a medal winner in the Best of State Awards in the Administrator Catagory for 2006. He will receive this award at the State Gala Awards Night on June 24th at the Salt Palace Ballroom. This event is a 'Black Tie' event and will be televised. Evan has served as Athletic Director of High School Athletics for many years and has always done whatever he could to help these programs in our schools, especially the small schools like we have in Garfield County. JUNE 8,2006 Our congratulations to the winners in the American Legion essay contest on Americanism which was entered by 12 students in Sherril Henrie's English class. The theme was,"What Freedom Means to Me". Jayelyn Gillett placed 1st, Jordanne Thomas (2nd) & Baylee Vasquez (3rd). It's nice to have winners inacademic competition as well as in athletics. I know we had many former residents home for Memorial day but only one contacted me. I hope all of those who were out to the cemetary were as impressed with it's appearance as I was. We certainly are fortunate to have maintainance personnel that take pride in their work. Don Bunker had his son, Craig, home for Memorial Day. I would like to have visited with Craig to ask if he still remembers the "bunker biscuit" he baked at Lost Camp on one of our Summer camps. (It would take a whole knothole to tell this story.) I understand Doyle Ipson was responsible for starting the project for the impressive monument to one of our earliest settlers. It really adds to our cemetary and I hope every visitor took time to read the inscriptions. Since I can't take my nebulizer treatments (COPD) unless I can watch television, Evalyn bought me a new set for Fathers Day.(It came early this year as Barbara, Brent, and Aaron brought it to me today and hooked it up.) Watching a good program cuts the time per treatment in half! Ken Roe has been asked to present his slide show and lecture on early Panguitch at the Lake Branch Chapel on the 13th of this month so he and Judy came from Smithfieid for a few days to visit and to give Judy's parents some help at the Red Canyon Indian Store and to get a little more information as to what is expected of him on the 13th. If any of our readers have not seen Ken's show and are interested is some of our city's early history and appearance, you might want to attend this event.
