Show JUNE 1,2006 Page 10 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER WEDDINGS BRYCE VALLEY AREA NEWS ...by Vicki D. Syren 679-8687or vickidianc36@hotmail.com Well it looks like the kids all made it through graduation without a hitch. The Bryce Valley High School graduation was great. There were 26 students graduating and receiving their diplomas. Valedictorians were Montana Platt and Jim Shakespear. Salutatorian was Angie Comp. McKay Thompson welcomed everyone to the graduation and Joseph Harman introduced the guest speaker, Coach Eric Jessen. All talks were very well done and enjoyable. After the ceremony they had a dance and a party for the Seniors. Montana Platt is the daughter of Ken and Artoise Platt of Henrieville, Jim Shakespear is the son of Franz and Margaret Shakespear of Tropic, Angie Comp is the daughter of Joey and Colleen Comp of Kodachrome, McKay Thompson is the son of Joe and Irish Thompson of Cannonville and Joseph Harman is the son of Robert and Yarlta Harman of Tropic. Congratulations to all of the Seniors. Have a fun summer and then it's back to more learning. Art and Vicki Syrett went to Richfield to the graduation of their grandson, Jordan Jensen. He is the son of David and Debbie Jensen of Central Valley. It was also a very nice program. They had a class of 111 students graduating. Also in this class was Trisha Allen, the granddaughter of Larvin and Eva Pollock and the daughter of Brent and Pauline Allen of Richfield. For those students interested in Summer Reading the program is starting up again. It will begin on the 7th of June and run for 9 weeks with the 9th week being the last day and all books will have to be turned in. Registration for this will take place on June 5th from 5 - 7 P.M. in the Volunteer Center next to Bryce Valley Elementary. There will be weekly prizes as readers keep track of pages, books or time of their read-ing. Volunteers who have signed up to help readers check out books are Helen Willis on Mondays from 10:00 to 12:00, Cindy Yeager on Thursdays from 11:00 to 2:00 and Vicki Syrett on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. and someone will also be coming in on Tuesdays. Kali Pollock has agreed to be the Summer Vista Volunteer and will help oversee this program. Lakay Quilter has volunteered to be a sub if someone can't be at the Library. Let's see you all join up, up thru 6th grade. You can also sign up on the first day you come to check out books. For more information about this program you can call Lori Mecham at -•.679-8761. See ya' there. We would like to send belated con- dolences to the family of Clement H. Broderick, who passed away recently. Glenna Fletcher of Cannonville, Joyce Johnson of Panguitch, and Anita Fletcher of Cannonville are three of his daughters. We want the family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers. Glenna Fletcher is the new Captain of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for the 2006-2007 year. Her officers are Rebecca Wagstaff, Dixie Shakespear, Connie Bell, and Vicki Syrett. Good luck Glenna we know you will do a great job. Congratulations to J. J. Dunham for coming in 10th in the Shot Put at the State Meet and Angie Comp on coming in 1st on the 600 Meter. I know we had others but this is the only ones that were reported to me. J. J. is the grandson of AJina Dunham of Cannonville and Angie is the daughter of Joey and Colleen Comp of Kodachrome. With sadness I want to report that a dream was lost recently. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers had been working for years to have a museum put up in the town of Tropic. They were going to use an old home that had been donated to them and was on the property where the new town offices are going. Well, while they were excited about getting closer to reality the house became a pile of rubbish. In trying to move it the house caved in and now there is no longer a house to use for a museum to display pioneer artifacts of the people that settled this area. It would have been a nice addition to the new city block and now it's not to be. Hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day Weekend. This is a time to honor those who have gone on before us and especially our service men and women. The weather was a little cool but at least it didn't rain down here like it did up north. Have a nice week everyone.
