Politicians carry on about ‘reaching across the aisle.’ I’ve been kind of thinking it might be kind of fun, To bulldoze the aisle right out of there, and make them function as one. Instead of secret caucuses, and one-party lobbyist perks, Why not a unified Congress that communicates, and works. The only reason we have them there is to benefit the nation, Not to carp and whine about their ‘party affiliation.’ Give them a ‘sales commission’ if their laws do us all some good, And make ‘em all debate as one, like a sensible Congress would. “LIBERAL” and “CONSERVATIVE” should vanish from Washington chatter. Whether those five hundred folks get something right is what should matter. Poems written by Ray Conrad www.raymondconrad.com Panguitch City Pool 398 E. 100 S. Jace Taylor dropped in a pair of treys and Dalton Lisonbee had one in his 13 points. Kevin Griffin poured in 14 and Brady Barney 11, as the Moquis chalked up their 9th region win with no defeats. The loss dropped the Badgers into 4th place at 4 and 4. BOBCATS NIP VALLEY Despite being outscored 27 baskets to 22 from the floor, the Panguitch Bobcats pulled out a 68 to 67 “heart stopper,” at Valley Friday night. Leading by 7 after three quarters, the Cats saw Valley go on a 24 point scoring binge in the fourth, that fell short by just one point. The Bobcat’s 76% accuracy at the foul line was the deciding factor, as they sank 23 of 30. Trac Norris’ 23 and Eric Frandsen’s 22 points led all scorers, while the Buffalos had four in double figures. The win puts Panguitch in second place, with a 6 and 2 region record, one game ahead of Valley. MOQUIS KEEP REGION SLATE CLEAN The Escalante Moquis, led by Kevin Griffin’s 17 points, had to mount a second half surge to defeat the Milford Tigers 60 to 49. Leading by a single point at intermission, the Moquis went on a 35 to 23 run in the final 16 minutes to insure the victory. Brady Barney poured in 12 points, Logan McLemore 10, with a pair of treys, and Dalton Lisonbee fired in two more threes. The Moquis remain undefeated in region, at 7 and 0. In other games, Valley clung to third place with a 43 to 35 win at Piute. With just a 6 point lead after three periods, the Buffalos held the T Birds to just 2 points in the finale to seal the win. Matt Hoyt led all scorers with 19 points. BRYCE TAYLOR BOMBS BOBCATS TO VICTORY Panguitch senior Bryce Taylor must have been wearing long range contacts Thursday night at Bryce Valley, as he fired in four from long distance, racking up a game high 23 points, to lead Panguitch to a 70-40 win over Bryce Valley. In the second half, Taylor put up eight shots from the floor without a miss. Trac Norris had a double-double night with 17 points and 10 rebounds. In period number two the Panguitch defense held the Mustangs to just two points, as both Brooks Leach and Eric Frandsen were standouts in the big D. The Mustangs Korde Chynoweth led his team with 11 points including one from three point range. The win allows Panguitch to maintain their hold on second place in region. BOBCAT MATMEN PLACE WELL AT ENTERPRISE AND JUNIOR HIGH MEETS Panguitch High’s Bobcat Wrestlers participated in the Enterprise Invitational Tournament this week and placed 6th in the 14 team meet. The Bobcat’s premier senior, Connor Mooney, continued his winning ways, placing first in the 171 weight class. Andrew Sawyer placed second in the 160, Nick Burns fourth in the 140, and Jory Owens fifth in the 103 class. In the Junior High School State Championships, Panguitch placed fourth as a team in the 1A division. Max Smith placed fourth in the junior high division, and Kolton Owens came in fourth in the middle school class. Congratulations gentlemen, and thank you for your all your dedication and hard work. CATS BEAT SECOND HALF CURSE Kalani Norris’ 28 point onslaught seemed to provide the spark for the Lady Bobcats to be able to put to rest the dreaded “second half curse,” at Milford Friday. Leading by 4 points at the break, Panguitch went on a 30 to 15 run in the final 16 minutes to salt away a 45 to 24 victory. The Lady Bobcat defense was dominant throughout the contest, limiting Milford’s offense to to less that 8 points in each of the four quarters. The win puts the Cats at .500 for the region at 4 and4 In other action, Brooke Blackburn’s 12 points and a 13 to 5 fourth quarter run, earned Wayne a 41 to 29 win over Valley and solidified the Badgers hold on third place in region. The loss Valley down into fifth place. BRYCE VALLEY DROPS HEART BREAKER IN O.T. Cache Moertensen’s game tieing bucket at the buzzer Saturday, seemed to portend that the luck of the Bryce Valley Mustangs was about to improve. But alas, in the O.T. Milford outscored the Mustangs 10 to 4, to send them down to a heart rendering 69 to 63 loss. Cache fired in a pair of threes and 22 points and Dusty Ahlstrom with 13 was the other Mustang in double figures. Bryce Valley outscored Milford from the floor, but the Tigers 26 of 41 from the charity stripe proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome. LADY MUSTANG’S DEFENSE THROTTLES BADGERS At Wayne Thursday, Bryce Valley’s defense held the Wayne Lady Badgers to single digits in all four periods to insure the Mustangs their 7th region win, 37 to 23, and maintain their grip on second place. Deysha Twitchell led all scorers with 17, and was the only player in double figures. In other action, the Valley Lady Buffalos trailing by 4 points after 3 periods, needed some key points down the stretch from the Charity Stripe in order to slip past Milford 34 to 32. Both teams poured in 14 buckets from the floor, but Valley’s 6 of 15 free throw output was the game’s deciding factor. LADY T BIRDS REMAIN UNDEFEATED Wednesday night, hosting the league leading Piute Lady Thunderbirds, Panguitch’s Lady Bobcats racked up double figures in three periods in an attempt to keep pace with Piute. But quarter number 2 was the culprit this time as the T Birds outscored the Cats 13 to 6, and went on to win their 9th region game 65 to 52. The loss drops Panguitch to 3 and 6. Kalani Norris led the Bobcats with 24 points and Chelsie Barney was the only other Cat in double figures with 14. JORY OWENS NAMED OUTSTANDING WRESTLER AT MILFORD TOURNEY At the Milford Wrestling Tournament last week, out weighed usually by at least twenty pounds, 80 pound Jory Owens’ skill and “never say die” attitude came to the fore in the match for first place. Jory avoided near pins three times and fought back to pin his larger opponent and not only take first place in his weight class but was honored as the Outstanding Wrestler in the entire Tournament. Panguitch as a team finished fifth in the sixteen team tourney. Conner Mooney placed first in the 171 weight class, and Brandon Birch a first in the 125 class as a JV. Also contributing to the team’s success were, Andrew Sawyer with a second place at 160, and Colton Smith another second at 145. Wow, the first semester for this school year is over and we are already well into the second semester, and for the students and staffulty at EHS the first semester ended with a BANG! The Student Government put on an AMAZING Renaissance Recognition Rally for the school and the community. The rally was based on the “Pirates of the Carribean” storyline, with added games such as, “The search for Captain Raggeti’s eyeball” and “Illogically logical riddles”. Each EHS student and staff member was put into one of three ships: The Flying Dutchman, The Black Pearl, and The Endeavour. Each ship (team) had ship mates chosen to play the games and earn points for their ships. During the rally, prizes were given out to the students who fell in the Levels of Recognition places: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Not only did the student Government have an incredibly good time entertaining the EHS students and staff, but also the awesome turn out from our Renaissance Partners, School Board members, Superintendent, the Community Council, parents, and all the other community members that joined us.
