Show The Garfield County Insider 0131M6 VAIIIIEWAlig) tillaMai nTC 4ki: 4%16 14Maiifigii641101/Ail* C°4; Is there something written in stone that says it's supposed to snow on Conference weekend in April? It sure seems that is usually the case. On the weather report it seems that the snow will be back later in the week. April showers surely are going to be around for a while. We can never have too much water, "maybe" all of the reservoirs around are at maximum already and we haven't even had the spring rung off. Even Yuba reservoir is backed up almost all the way. Speaking of reservoirs I understand that the reservoir in Escalante is finally finished and is now 15' higher. Instead of dredging out the muck, they increased the height with the same results, a whole lot more capacity. It is already filling up and hopefully with the spring run off it will fill up and give Escalante some badly needed irrigation water. Escalante's reservoir is also a great place for camping, fishing and even water skiing and it also has the Petrified Forest. The Petrified Forest has a great garden that is easily accessed and has a large number of pieces of petrified wood on display. This wood is different than that in Arizona; it has a lot of color in it. We have another reason for celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Jen and Matt Houston welcomed a new daughter to their family. Her name is Collins and is the Houston's third daughter, to go with a son. For some unknown reason, Spring Break in Garfield schools will be this week, Thursday and Friday. Easter isn't until two weeks later, on April 24th. This for the first time the Easter Egg hunt will be on Saturday instead of Thursday. It will be on Saturday 23rd and will start at 10am, it will be still held at the Fair Park. Bring your kids, grandkids and your cameras and enjoy the fastest 15 minutes of the year. Don't forget your baskets and be on time, every year there are kids that are late and miss out on the fun. There will be a fund raising concert at the Triple C Arena, tomorrow night, April 8th. The featured musical group will be Due West. This is an excellent chance to see and hear some top notch music. Tickets are on sell at the City Hall and are $18.00 for reserved seats and $12.00 for general admission. Part of the proceeds will go to Jill Camp and Logann Eager; both have medical problems and no insurance. These young Ladies are from our neighbors in Circleville and Cannonville, so get out and enjoy a nice evening of some wonderful entertainment. If you are low-income, elderly or disabled and struggle to pay your utility bills, home-heating assistance is available. Funds are available to help qualified families and individuals through the HEAT (Home Energy Assistance Target) program. The designated number for Garfield Co. is (435) 467-8597. Next week is National Volunteer Week, (April 1016). Volunteers are what keep's Utah and Garfield going. Volunteers come in all different sizes and ages, April 7, 2011 by Vicki D. EMTS, firefighters, search and rescue, are but a few of the volunteers. In Panguitch we have the Lions Club, Quilt Walk people, Balloon folks, meals on wheels drivers, coaches that work with the youth in sports and if you think about it the Churches all need volunteers. I think that the LDS Church has 164 positions that are filled by the congregation, including cleaning the Chapel's in each Ward. Volunteering is something that is fun and can be exciting and you are helping out to make our community a better place to live. SO VOLUNTEERS TAKE A BOW AND PAT YOUR SELF ON THE BACK. Do you enjoy gardening? The Escalante Native Plant Society will need volunteers in the spring to clean up the native plant displays on Main Street in Escalante. If interested, please contact Harriet Priska at (435) 8264720. In the near future there will a big moving day down at the Fair Building. All of the employees from the County Court house will be moving there along with their desks filing cabinets for a year of camping out. Things will be tough for them, however the reward of their new building will be really worth it. I attended a viewing of the new building put on by the County Commissioners, about a month ago. What a grand plan they have for this new addition, to the original Court House. I am always disappointed in the turnouts for this kind of informational evening, so if you weren't there and its not what wanted, don't complain, because you had your chance to add your two cents.. Ms. Shawn Caine's FBLA Class (Future Business Leaders of America) made the trek up to Layton to present themselves at State. On the way up there we stopped at Fuddruckers Restaurant for dinner. Tyler Brinkerhoff became an instant legend by taking the Fuddruckers challenge. It's a one pound hamburger, a double order of chili cheese fries and a dessert designed for four. Tyler just kept eating, downing the burger, rather easily and the fries, followed by the humongous dessert and he licked the platter clean, while washing it all down with a root beer. Tyler was cheered along by his class mates, with their Eat! Eat! Eat! chanting. For all this food Tyler won a T shirt with "You are the Man" on the front, which Tyler wore with great pride at every opportunity. 0.
