Katie Rosser thought that she had some nerve damage in her foot, but when she had an MRI done it showed she had a stress fracture of her foot. Katie is the second player lost for the season with foot problems, Katelyn Parkin also has foot problem and still has a cast on her foot after 2 months. The lost of Katie was very evident when the girls went over to Bryce Valley. The Lady Cats had won 16 games and lost only one to Parowan and with the exception of Piute they had held their opponents to under 30 points. However they got into a real slug fest with the Bryce Valley Mustangs. Both teams played really well, but when Kalani Norse fouled out, after scoring 22 points, the girls hit a cold spell and the game was tied at 46 at the end and went into overtime. The Ladystangs (is that a word ?) got off to a great start in overtime, getting three easy lay ups, for a six point lead. Coach Orton put in freshman Macey Stephenson who was fouled on her shot. Macey calmly sunk both free throws and the Cats stopped the Mustangs the next time down the court and Breanne Bateman sank a way out three pointer, to cut the lead to one, with thirty seconds left. The Ladies made another stop and got the ball back with 8 seconds left but couldn't convert and the Mustangs got a very hard fought win 52 to 51. In the Homecoming game against the Valley Buffaloes the girls got back to their old defensive way. Chandler Campbell who took Katies place, stuck to her opponent like a fly on honey, I didn't see her get off a shot. The Cats took out the Buffalos 49 to 19, Kalani had a game high 28 points and sharp shooting Natashia Barney had a very good night with 12 points and Breanne Bateman had 8 assists. I hope you made it over to Piute last night; hopefully the results will be the same as the girl's first meeting. Can you believe it the Lady Cats last league game is over at Milford tomorrow night? Next week on the 9th, 10th and 11th is the start of the League playoffs. They are over (for some dumb reason) in Cedar at Canyon View High School. Because of the long distant over to Cedar not a lot of fans from any of the schools come, so come on out and show your support for the Ladycats and the world what great fans you are. The 7 and 8th grade girls continued on their winning way. Valley is the only team that has scored more than 10 points against them, winning 51 to 19. Taylor Bennett went up for a lay up which she made and got knocked down, breaking three bones in her wrist. Taylor is going to be really something when she gets to high school. The coaches, hoping to get the girls some competition, went over to Parowan, but the results were the same. They beat Parowan in a close game 68 to 3. Coach Tammy Bennett says there will be league play starting sometime in March. If you can, get out and watch these girls. The Bobcats are caught in a stretch where they only have one game a week for three weeks. Last night at the Home Coming they played against a much improved Escalante team. The first half was close but the Cats came out smoking and ran away with a win 60 to 45. Riley Miller had another stellar night with a game high 24 points and Dallon Bennett got hot in the second half for 15 points. He had a beautiful jump shot. Freshman Tyce Barney, who is going to be really something, tore some ligaments in his ankle and will be out for a while. The last time I saw Tyler Hughes from Escalante, was three years ago when he sang the National Anthem at the State finals, which Escalante won, boy has he got tall. Tyler scored 12 points and was joined with a new player, Lindsay who had 21 points. With the two of them they have to have the tallest front line in 1 A and if they keep improving who knows what might happen at State. The Bobcats game this week is down at Valley and it will be tonight. Next week, I guess because of the girl's playoff the Bobcats will be over at Bryce Valley on Tuesday February 8th. All of you that saw the buzzer beater shot by Riley Miller will want to see this match up again. The next week also on Tuesday the 15th the Piute Thunderbirds will be here. So set up your schedules to take in all of these games during this period. The Wrestlers have their League playoffs this Saturday the 5th out at Escalante. This last week the Bobcat tough guys had a very busy week. Milford on Wednesday, which they won by something like 60 to 11, then off to Wayne on Thursday only to lose by nine points. When I was at Wayne for a game, they really dominated during the 80s and 90s, winning thirteen straight State Wrestling Championships. Friday and Saturday they were at the Enterprise Tournament where they took fourth place. Jory Owens and Cade Cole still remain undefeated in lA competition. So if you are looking for something to do on Saturday, head on over to Moqui land.
