Blue Spring Lake is located near Kolob Reservoir in the Virgin River Drainage. The pond is located entirely on private property and is being treated to remove gold fish which pose a threat to nearby public waters. This project is scheduled for October 18, 2010. 2. Deer Creek is located on the east side of Mount Dutton and is a tributary to the East Fork of the Sevier River. Approximately 4 miles of stream will be treated to remove non native fish. This project is part of a native trout restoration project started in 2009. This project is scheduled for October 21, 2010. 3. Two private ponds lo- itOYAAt, My Goals for Garfield County Education • • • • (800) 260-3668 cated in Long Valley, in the Clear Creek drainage southwest of Richfield, will be treated on October 19, 2010, to remove non native minnows which pose a threat to nearby public waters. All three locations will be chemically treated with rotenone. Liquid rotenone, Prentox Prenfish toxicant will be applied to target waters using drip barrels, back-pack sprayers and boat mounted pumps. Rotenone application will begin early in the morning and run through the afternoon. Treatment will run for 3 to 8 hours, depending upon location, to ensure that all fresh water sources are simultaneously treated. Charges for drip stations were calculated to apply the 5% active ingredient liquid rotenone at a rate of 1.5 ppm or 75 ppb active ingredient in the stream target reaches. Rotenone applied by backpack sprayers will be mixed at a ratio of approximately 8oz of 5% A.I. rotenone to 3 gal of filtered water. Powdered rotenone will be used at a rate of 2.5 ppm in Blue Spring Lake only. Potassium Permanganate, an oxidizing agent, may be applied to toxic waters at a rate of 2 : 1 (Postassium Permanganate:Rotenone) using an auger system to detoxify the rotenone below the target area if necessary. Although rotenone is relatively benign to humans, fish treated with the chemical have not been cleared for human consumption by the FDA. Consequently, the salvage of fish during the project will not be permitted. For additional information: Mike Ottenbacher, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, 1470 N.
