Show C M Y K The Garfield County Insider Page 2 BIRD IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP SCENIC BYWAY 12 MEETING ANNOUNCED ‘The Scenic Byway 12 Committee will meet on April 21, 2009 at 1 pm in Tropic, Utah. The meeting will be held in the Tropic Town Heritage Center and Town Hall on Main Street in Tropic.’ The Boulder Heritage Foundation is hosting a bird identification workshop in Boulder on June 5, 6, and 7. The workshop will begin at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 5th at the Boulder Town Hall. The workshop will include basic bird identification techniques, transportation for field trips on Boulder Mountain and to the Canyons of the Grand Staircase Escalante Monument, as well as a Dutch-oven dinner, continental breakfasts and lunches. Cost of the workshop is $150.00 and the registration deadline is May 10th. Proceeds support the Boulder Heritage Festival. IPA contributed $300,000 during its fiscal year 20082009 that added to previously funded endowments at the University of Utah, Utah State University, Snow College, Dixie College, the College of Eastern Utah, and Mountainland Applied Technology College. More than $100,000 has been budgeted for scholarships during its next fiscal year that begins in July. “Encouraging talented young people to enter the engineering field is of vital importance to our industry and our nation,” said James A. Hewlett, general man- ager of the Intermountain Power Agency. “A generation of engineers throughout the United States is nearing retirement and we need more qualified young people to fill those ranks.” Engineering students interested in studying clean coal technologies and climate change receive preference in the awards of scholarships from the IPA funded endowments. The Intermountain Power Agency is an organization of 23 Utah municipalities formed to finance, construct, operate and maintain the Intermountain Power Project. The Project generates enough electricity to supply the needs of more than 1.5 million homes.
