The World Harmony Run is a global Torch Relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. This year an international team of runners are carrying a flaming Torch, symbolizing humanity's aspiration for oneness, through more than 80 countries around the globe. The World Harmony Run involves simultaneous relays throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. The Run has been held 8 times since 1987, involving more than 5 million people. It has been endorsed by many of the nation's Mayors, Governors and Members of Congress, as well as by Pope John Paul II, President Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, among others. During their time on the road, the runners will stop at local grade and high schools, to share the ideals of world harmony. WEATHER BV'/JS' JUII 19 Jun 20 Weri Jun 21 CSS <?' On June 6, 2006, Garfield Memorial Hospital and Clinics hosted its annual volunteer luncheon to thank the volunteers that support the hospital. The volunteers are a vital part of the hospital's operations whose presence provides an additional layer of warmth and passion. Their service in the long-term care unit, the thrift store, making baby quilts and other items for the hospital gift cart, support of other events and all their capabilities are greatly appreciated by the hospital staff, Board of Trustees and the community. The Garfield Memorial Healthcare Foundation donated $10,800 in 2005 to the hospital to purchase a birthing mirror for the OB department and to help purchase a $20,00 surgery table for the operating room. The foundation also donated another 410,00 in early 2006 to purchase two vital sign monitors for the hospital and longterm. The Foundation's two main efforts are the annual Foundation dinner that raises around $9,00-$ 11,000 annually and the Thrift Store, which has raised over $70,000 since it's beginning in 2002. These efforts are supported by other smaller but important events such as the gift cart, Cookbook sales, quilt sales and the century club. The Foundation's donations to the hospital have helped purchase a new Dinamap Vital Sign Monitor used to evaluate blood pressures, oxygen and temperatures, a Tympanometer used to measure the mobility of the eardrum, three fetal and vascular dopplers used for listening to pulses and/or babies' heart beats, an endoscope used to look into the intestinal tract, a heavy duty wheelchair for the long-term care unit, a patient lift chair for the long-term care unit, a patient bath lift for the long-term care unit along with the items early in the report and computers for the hospital's electronic medical record. The items listed are a small representation of what the community's support of the Foundation means to the hospital and patient services. The hospital relies on the generosity of donors to help meet its needs to the community. Whether it is shopping at or donating items to the Thrift store, attending the annual Foundation dinner, joining the Century Club or supporting us in any way, your contributions are welcomed. The employees of Garfield Memorial Hospital and Clinics consider it their stewardship to use the funds received form the community in the most effective way. We hope we are adequately fulfilling this stewardship. Thanks for your support. 0% Slight not what's near, while aiming at what's far.
