GSENM Climate Monitoring Program Time: 7-8:30 p.m. Place: Escalante Interagency Visitor Center Ever wonder how much it rained on the Monument, or what scientists are doing to try and help understand the monsoon rain patterns? Come hear James Holland, GSENM hydrologist talk about our climate monitoring program, data available on the internet, and how you can use this valuable information when planning your visits here. June 15 Giant Petrified Wood Forest Time: 8:30 am-4 p.m. Place: Meet at the junction of Hwy 12 and the Burr Trail, Boulder, UT Join Dr. Alan Titus, GSENM paleontologist, on an adventure into the Late Triassic, nearly 220 million years ago. You'll drive the Wolverine Loop Road, and then head out for a moderate hike of about 3 miles searching for amazing relics of petrified logs. This area on the Monument protects the 2nd largest petrified wood forest in North America! Bring lunch, water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and a 4WD or high clearance vehicle.
