Is your teenager working on a book? Does he hope to become published? Many authors got their start as writers while in junior high or high school and wish that start had been a little more substantial. How much easier would it have been for those authors if they’d had a more author/career learning environment with people who had already been through the hoops of getting an agent, and signing the contracts that turned them from writer to author. It was with that concept that several best-selling authors determined to give the youth just that—a day of workshops and hands on writing experience from people who understood the industry. The conference will cater to the specials needs of young beginning writers. This is the first ever writers conference in Utah that caters to teens, ages 13–19. Classes range between the craft of writing, self-editing, and the process of finding an agent or publisher. Featured presenters include best-selling authors: Jessica Day George, James Dashner, J. Scott Savage, Matthew Buckley, Julie Wright and Lisa Mangum. Complete class schedule and presenter list can be found at their website: www.teenwritersconference.com Registration fee ($39.00) includes lunch. To register, go to the website and print the form, then mail in by May 25, 2009: www.teenwritersconference.com A parent permission form is required for teens 17 and under (also on the website). Attendees are encouraged to enter the writing contest to gain professional feedback on their writing. Story prompts and guidelines are listed on the website. Entries will be accepted through email until May 30, 2009. For a day of learning, fun, and the beginning of your teen fulfilling his or her dreams of becoming a published author, please join them on June 6th. The Teen Writers Conference will be an annual event. The conference is sponsored by the editing company, Precision Editing Group: www.PrecisionEditingGroup. com. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Thelma Bybee and all of her children and their spouses went to Hawaii together. Two of her kids couldn’t make it but those that were able to had a great time. There were fifteen total until Aaron and Julie Bybee’s son Kyle, who is stationed in Hawaii, joined them. They stayed for two days on the big island. The plane ride over to Hawaii was a first for Thelma and she loved it. It was also her first time seeing the ocean and just laying on the beach felt like a grand adventure. Everyone went to the Kona Temple and that was a wonderful experience! Some went to the volcano and others went touring the incredible scenery. Then they flew to Kaui where Thelma experienced another first, they all took a tour of the island in a helicopter. It was breathtaking. Everyone came back sunburnt, a few pounds heavier from all the good food and feeling very blessed. It was beautiful, fun, and exciting but there is still no place like home. Thelma’s words were “It was a great time”. Congratulations to Alyssa Johnson and Ben Boore who are engaged and getting married in August. Ben is from Axtell Utah and he is going to SUU in the fall to pursue more towards his degree in law. Both Alyssa and Ben have been students at Snow College and have loved it there. They plan on being married in the Manti Temple. Alyssa is the daughter of Moyle and Tracy Johnson of Tropic. Congratulations also to Levi LeFevre and Samantha Hamblin on their coming marriage on June Fifth in the St. George Temple. Samantha is from Kanab and her parents are Harold and Cynthia Hamblin. We send our best wishes to the happy couples. He is one of two to received this award. He is a junior there and is the son of Allen and Tammi Syrett. A little belated news from Jim and Erma Clarke of Cannonville. Their son, Arthur and his son, Christopher, came from Las Vegas to visit the Clarke’s. Christopher is engaged to be married in August. Kevin and Cheryl Garrett and family of Cedar, Patrick and Cindy Clarke and family of Enoch, came over and brought a picnic lunch for the Easter weekend. They had to sit on the floor and pretend to be outside as it was too cold to eat outside. They had a lot of fun anyway. Glenna Pollock had Grant and Darlene Le Fevre of Bountiful and Jolene Jensen of Salt Lake come for a visit. They all had a good visit. Jim and Louise England, Mikai and Karissa Porter, Kevin and Kay Shakespear all traveled to Las Vegas to the missionary Homecoming of Kal Shakspear. Kal is the son of Darryl and Kayleen Shakespear. Everyone enjoyed the time and then it happened all over again in Tropic in the Sacrament meeting today. Kal gave his talk for the Tropicites and his parents also gave a talk followed by Link Chynoweth of the High Council. In between the graduating Seniors from Tropic sang a beautiful song, “A Child’s Prayer”. It was wonderful. Coming to spend the weekend were Rob and Melinda Dotson and Bobi, Roman, and Shelby all of Enoch. The late Lamar Shakespear, and Jim and Louise England are the grandparents of Kal. Ora Brinkerhoff is the great grandmother. While this was happening Jim England went to Las Vegas to his family reunion for the Frehner Familly. He had a chance to visit with his children who live there, Brent and Shantel England and Don and James their children and then Freddie and Leslie Reisen with Ashley and Tray. Jim was able to get home for the Sunday festivities. Everyone met and had a great dinner at the England home. Ora Brinkerhoff is getting ready to celebrate her 89th birthday. We wish you the best Ora because we all love you. Her children all met together for several days a week ago to honor their Mother for Mother’s Day and to celebrate her birthday early. While there they just all worked together and got her yard and house in shape for the summer. A long standing tradition is for the girls, Ora, and daughter, Louise England of Tropic, Rose Hunt of Beaver, Donna Chynoweth of Escalante, and Oretta Malmedal of Las Vegas. They went to Richfield for a day of shopping, buying flowers, and of course eating. When they returned home full of packages and other stuff they all were ready to meet on Friday with the rest of the family. All working and enjoying their time together were Doug and Oretta Malmedal, Jeff and Rosie Hunt, LInk and Donna Chynoweth, Jim and Louise England, Danny and Wendy Brinkerhoff, Raymond and Ronnie Brinkerhoff, Ferrill and Gwen Brinkerhoff and Kevin and Kay Shakespear and all of their families. Helen WIllis called to tell about a Reunion at her house. For the first time since 1985 three brothers and two sisters got together to celebrate life. They haven’t all been together since their father, Harold Blondin passed away and so they decided to spend the week-end getting reaquainted with each other. The brothers are Alford Underwood of Provo, Ray Blondin of Hawthorne Nevada, and Tom Blondin of Mesa Arizona. The two sisters are Ruth Gaw of Reno Nevada and Helen Willis of Henrieville. What a great time together and sharing notes and photos and all kinds of things. Wonderful visit. Then Helen went with Bonnie Willis to Junction to attend the Graduation Ceremony at Piute High School. Bonnie’s granddaughter, Koye Willis graduated and was Class Valedictorian. Helen said she is as smart as a whip. Koye is the youngest child and daughter of KayMar and MaryJean Willis of Antimony. Helen you have a few of those sharp whips in your family. One right off the top of my head is Tressy who teaches as Canyon View Middle School. The kids love her. Dustin Leslie gave his mission Farewell today in Henrieville. He is going to the Billings Montana mission. Dustin is the son of Jane Leslie of Henrieville and Randal Leslie of Tropic. There were a lot of BRYCE VALLEY SCHOOL NEWS by Vicki D.
