All programs are free and co-sponsored by Grand Staircase Escalante Partners. April 16, 2009 C M Y K C M Y K Owens Party Edson Alvey Tribute Thursday, April 16 • 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Escalante Interagency Visitor Center Spend the evening with educator Sue Bassett as she pays tribute to Edson Alvey, longtime Escalante resident who discovered and named many of the arches and bridges in the Escalante area. Old Boulder Road Saturday, April 18 • 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Escalante Interagency Visitor Center; carpool to site Difficulty: Moderate; 4 miles Hike with local historian Sage Sorenson down the Old Boulder Road. Along the way we will see Peter’s Whip Up, the Loading Dock, Cedar Logdecks, and Thompson’s Turnover, with the trail ending at Escalante River and Calf Creek confluence. Bring a lunch, sunscreen, and wear comfortable shoes. Call the Escalante Interagency Visitor Center (435) 826-5499 for information and reservations. Limited to 12 participants. Hours of Indoor and Outdoor Fun!! -wet/dry slide -bungee run -bounce house -velcrowall- and more.. -birthday parties-work parties-reunions-fairs- North Skutumpah Equestrian Ride Wednesday, April 22 • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. GSENM Kanab Visitor Center; depart 7:30 a.m.; carpool to trailhead GSENM Cannonville Visitor Center; depart 9:00 a.m.; carpool to trailhead Difficulty: Moderate; 8 mile roundtrip Saddle your horse and ride with GSENM Outdoor Recreational Planner Clay Stewart on an equestrian adventure through the Sheep Creek Narrows. The ride starts at Sheep Creek and continues to the confluence of Willis Creek. From Willis Creek we will loop back to Skutumpah Road and stop in Averrett canyon. Points of interest include petroplyphs, pictographs, and a soldier’s grave. We will also discuss geology, desert plant life, and wildlife.
