Show Page 7 T H E GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER tlicoWcrsjtie of the-feme. by Earl Roe wearlroe@yahoo.com • 676-2376 Breaking news for Ice Fishermen. Panguitch Lake is frozen over from shore to shore. I felt that it would be, but before reporting it in the Knothole, I wanted to be sure so this afternoon(Saturday)I picked up my brother-in-law, Monte Marshall, and we drove to and around the lake. It looked like a hugh sheet of glass with no cracks or open spots. I only remember seeing it 1 ike this one other time in my life. This was before ice fishing was legal but it sure was fun skating. There was even a few brave youngsters walking on it along the South shore just East of the mouth of Blue Spring Creek and the North Shore just around the point West of the dam. They were not out very far which shows some wisdom but I would wager that there will be fishermen sitting on it by the time this edition of the Insider comes out. Since I did not get to do any Summer fishing, I'have been looking forward to ice fishing but age and three times through the ice have made me wiser and taught me patience. When that cold water hits your'set-down' it acts just like Adams Clove Gum--it takes your breath away.(Do you remember this slogan for this gum?) I am willing to wait until I see some large groups fishing before I venture out. I would hate to see a fisherman's day ruined by falling through the ice so here is some advice from a Scout Book of long ago which pertains to hard, brittle ice.(Not rotting ice near the shore where I went through.) I have found this good advice and have always tried to follow it: "One inch-Keep Off; Two inches-One May; Three inches-Small Groups; Four inches-OK". I was sure I would have several 'Happy Thanksgivings' reports this week, but I only received three. Alta Orton and Jo Ann Jones(Alta's daughter)enjoyed their Thanksgiving in Tropic at the home of Alta's son, Wally Orton. Alta said it was a very enjoyable day. A week earlier Alta was surprised by her Grand Daughters and Great Grand Daughters with an 84th Birthday party at the Hying M Resturant on November 18th. A total of 21 great and great great grand daughters were present to wish grandmother a Happy Birthday. I received an E-mail from LeAnn Bridges Herron, daughter of Don & LucilIe(Deceased)Bridges and a former DECEMBER 7,2006 student of mine, with the following information:"The Bridges Clan had quite a Thanksgiving celebration this year. The family is getting so big that it is hard to get everyone together in one place so we started out by having dinners Thursday at both Dad's and Russell's & Annette If you are using fuels that are oil or gas Bridges homes.
