Show 101111C11 ELIMANfilAIM EWAREA,PAIULI FS by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com Condolences go out to the families of Floyd Richards who passed away last week. We want Alaska to know that she and her family are in our prayers and thoughts and that we wish her well. Floyd was a long time resident of Tropic and well known by many. We know you will miss him. Also to the family of Glenna Pollock who also passed away this week. She will be missed by many family and friends. Glenna was very active at her age and you could often see her driving around town doing errands and attending DUP meetings with her friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. The Fletcher Family also week of 18th. Boy was there a lot going on this last weekend. The Fiddlers were in town and they were excellent. One man played a fiddle with a megaphone on it and used everything you could think of as the bow, and they all sounded great. The one that I like best is the guy who sings the Wabash Cannon Ball and does the train whistle with his throat, amazing! The Taste of Panguitch was a big success, as was the Lions Club Breakfast. The race to Cannonville CA marathon at Bryce Canyon) came off with out a hitch, that race brings in about 1600 runners and many of our motels were full. The Cal Ripkens tournament was won by our 12 year olds on Saturday (more about this next week). There were 17 teams in this tournament and the games also added to the success of the motels. The Gem Theater had a midnight showing of the last Harry Potter Movie, it will be here for two weeks. Starting on July 25, there will be another baseball tournament and it will be the 9 nine year olds playing, so take time to go down and watch, for their age these kids are great fun to see. Another big weekend coming up, it's the 24th which will be celebrated on the 23rd this year. The week starts off with the 23rd Annual Panguitch Invitational High School Rodeo and that starts on Tuesday the 19th and runs to Friday the 22nd. They even have a half price night on Wednesday night for all Garfield residents, all of the action will be at the Triple C Arena. Saturday morning starts off with a Scouts annual 24th breakfast at Zions Bank. There will be another 5K run that will be leaving the Panguitch Drug at 8: am. Then the highlight of the day the Pioneer Parade, so get your floats ready and your antique autos and tractor polished up and head on down to the High School and get in line. The DUP program will follow and will be held at the Stake Center, this program is always interesting and you can learn a lot about the history of our area. This year the Panguitch Firefighters are not putting on their traditional pit barbecue, the Fair building is being used. The Panguitch Lions will try to keep the tradition going, till the Fair building is available. The Lions Club will host an old fashion hamburger cook out. Hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, water melon and drinks, all for five dollars. So bring out the family and it will be held down at the Park Pavilion and will start at 12:30. This will be followed by kids races and games at the City Park, starting at 2:00 o ' clock. We had some really good citizens come forward to put in for the Mayors and City Council positions. Laura Talbot in the Mayor position and Eric Houston, Laura Mosdell and Rick Miller have applied for the three council positions. Thank you for stepping up. City Government is really the only one that the people have any say in matters. Don't forget to put the Panguitch Lions Demolition Derby on your calendar, August 20, it will be at the Fair Grounds and will be a the conclusion of the County Fair. Rick Irish (676-2742) is doing the Derby this year, so get your car entered, there is expected to be a lot of cars there, and is always a fun night. There will be an ATV Rally the week after the Fair. Last year there were about 60 riders signed upped and with all the miles and miles of ATV trails that we have access to from Panguitch it should be a real natural event that should just keep getting bigger each year. Again this year they will be looking for volunteer guides to take the riders to some of these wonderful trails. To steal a little thunder from Earl Roe's column I am including low gas prices. Gas in Cedar, regular $354, Costco in St George $3.52 (for 87 octane), Richfield $3.56 and Kanab $3.69 No mater which way you go, give yourself some extra time, there is road construction on 89 both north or south and Highway 12 is also under construction, but they are really going to town and have asphalted pass the turn off to Bryce Canyon. This sure has been a weird weather year, with plenty of snow and rain. The one thing that has been constant, is the wind, I can't remember when the last day of no wind was. Till next week. Mack 0. Garfield County Commission Meeting had their reunion the same weekend with 62 people present. It was the Ariel and Mandy Fletcher Reunion. They had a great time and got in a lot of visiting and catching up on each other. Tristan & Cherie Hathaway and family came from Florida to take part. Benjamin and Tamara Lee came from Cedar City as did Jacob Moss and Raphael Morreale came from Salt Lake. These are the children of John and Ramona Morreale and the late Chad Moss of Cannonville. Also in attendance was all of the Alma and Anita Fletcher Family and the Larry and Glenna Fletcher Family. Cannonville was the site of the Fiddlers & Bear Festival and the 1/2 Marathon with the 5K thrown in. Breakfast was furnished and cooked by the Bryce Valley Lion's club and was very good with many eating. They were very busy. There were around 1500 runners registered and it was a successful day with the evening being finished off with the great music of the fiddlers. Some of the locals running in the marathon were Jacob Moss, Gayle Fletcher, and Denise Fletcher ran the 5K. This makes the first year we did not man a water table and watch the marathon. The William Jaspar Henderson Reunion was also held this last weekend in Cannonville. Told you the park was very busy. Terry and Susie Clark had all of their family home for the weekend. Kevin, Denise, and Christy and their families were all present. Helen Willis had lots of company for the weekend also. There was a Baugh Reunion held at the Tropic Town Park. Good thing it was there because I don't think Cannonville could have held any more people. There were many in attendance and there was a lot of visiting and activities going on with great food. Attending were Herb & Dorie Baugh, Dana & daughter Emilee Courtright, Jana Baugh, Chris Baugh, Cari Gillespie and Alli and Landon with her husband Chris coming out later.. Kelly & Birch Moore of Santa Clara, Mate and Ruth Baugh, Ron & Deene Baugh of West Valley City, Holly and daughter Baylee Baugh, Ben & JoAnn Baugh of Henderson Nevada and their two daughters, Jill and Janelle with husband Josh Willis. Lillis and son Marlin Francisco of Tropic, LaVell & Anne Baugh of Chino Valley Arizona & Lane & Marlene Chynoweth of Ferrin with their son Rich and his fiancee'. It is always good to have family around to visit and enjoy. Ron Millett and wife Susan spoke today along with Ferrill Brinkerhoff in Tropic. Whitni Syrett played a beautiful piano piece. Delane Griffin, Kara Redd, Austyn Brinkerhoff, and Emily Jessen were the speakers in Cannnonville. Sue Bassett, & Bryce Syrett were in Henrieville with Lorilei Adkins and Collette Mathews singing and Jamie Reeder played for them. Congratulations to Brett Palmer on becoming an Elder. Talon Chynoweth will be getting his Eagle Award at the Court of Honor on July 24th. He is the son of Shawn & Lesa Chynoweth. Congratulation Talon.. We welcome Keni Floyd into Young Women. Congratulations to Jean and Spring Seiler on becoming the Young Single Adults leaders. How fun. Released from that calling was Chad and Mindy Grimshaw who are awaiting the birth of their twins. Teresa Thompson took three youth to the FCCLA Nationals Finals and they did well. Annie Syrett, Danica Rose and Dawson Johnson went on this trip. Congratulations to you all. Been enjoying the beautiful gardens around town lately. I would love to have the ability to make a great garden and Kevin and Kay Shakespear have that. It is beautiful and is growing so well. Good job. There are many more that I see coming along great. Good work everyone. Coming up this next weekend is the Pioneer Dreams 24th Celebration on the 23rd in Tropic. It is headed up by Henrieville and promises to be another great event. There will be a parade at 10:00 A.M. but they need you to line up at the elementary school by 9:30 A.M. There are prizes for the best floats. Kids races will be right after the parade. A bake sale will go on until all items are sold and it begings after the parade but they would like the goods by 9:30 A.M. so they are ready. For $2..00 you can spend all day on the inflatable toys and the games and prizes until 2:00 P.M. Lunch is Indian Tacos, Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs, Chips, Scones, Drinks, Cotton Candy and Sno-Cones.
