Preserving historic buildings works best when they can be put to some use, even if they are used for something other than that for which they were originally intended. However, neither the Park nor the concessionaire had need for this small but important building that was designed in the same "rustic style" as the other early Park buildings. In recent years, both the Park administration and Forever Resorts have acknowledged a desire to offer even more amenities for families, especially those who may be traveling on a more limited budget. One consideration was to offer inexpensive dining options in the Park, and a pizzeria Even people who work in a setting such as Bryce Canyon National Park need facilities for indoor recreation, and in 1927, two years after completion of the Bryce Canyon Lodge, an "employees' pavilion" was built near the back of the Lodge for the use of the Utah Parks Company's staff Later, this recreation hall was also used as a women's dormitory or maids' quarters, but for some time it has been unused and empty, except for the occasional deer mouse or ground squirrel. Unused buildings are especially vulnerable to deterioration from neglect, and none more so than historic LDS, 2ND WARD 190 No 400 East 616-2240 Danny Yardley Sunday service 10:00 AM Sunday School 11:10 AM Priesthood/Relief Society 12:00 PM Youth-Tuesday 7:00 PM LDS, 3RD WARD 500 So 100 West 676-2517 Troy Henrie Sunday service 9:00 AM Sunday School 10:10 AM Priesthood/Relief Society 11:00 PM Youth-Tuesday 7:00 PM 8:00 P.M Tickets can be purchased at Royals Food Town The Fiddlers will tee the stage Thursday 4-Friday at 7:oo p.m. at the Social Hall f•, Cost: Free! The time was right for the recreation hall, now known as Valhalla, to once again serve a useful purpose. Crews have just finished the remodeling that was needed to convert the old recreation hall to a modern pizzeria. Opening in early July, Valhalla Pizzeria will feature both indoor and outdoor dining with lots of pizza and soft drinks. Later in July Valhalla will also offer pastries, coffee and other breakfast treats during the morning hours. So come and enjoy another one of Bryce Canyon's historic sites, now preserved and filling another important need. For more information, call 435-834-5322.
