Show The Garfield County Insider =rillaValT01 MiW6 04M* — I nWaWaa144*100* THE SHOOT OUT AT THE FIRE STATION WAS A HUGE SUCCESS. Tammy Barton, (Garfield Co. EMT Coordinator) reported that over 600 flu shots were given. Tammy said people came that were just passing by, teachers going to UEA, tourists, EMTS, fire fighters and that was a really big improvement over last years, 400 shots. There is some talk of this event being in Tropic and Escalante as well as Panguitch next year. This is going to be an annual event, so when flu season hits, you can save a little and protect your families health. We just got back from California where we went to my nephew's wedding in Bakersfield. It was down on Friday and back on Sunday, whirlwind affair. The wedding started at 2:00 and we left the reception at 10:00 that night. What fun! We (Pat, Kelly, Shawn, Teah and Stockton; great grand child) had a super time seeing the family and all. There was a dance after dinner and I don't know where these young people get all the energy to dance for so long. I thought the jitterbug was tiring but these dances are constant motions, many were just young kids and one was about 18 months old that was twirling and rocking with the beat of the music. The trip was really fun and well worth the drive. Fire Chief Dave Etter (Panguitch Lake) announced that the flag pole at the new fire station is up, and an American Flag is flying proudly. The Station was dedicated on October 8th at 08:48, and is now an official fire station. The fire fighters at the Lake are now ready to respond. Dave sent me a picture of the station and the flag, when I figure out how to put the picture in the column, it will be there. Claudia and Greg Payne, son Josh Payne is back from another tour of the Fareast. Josh's original tour was with the National Guard in Afghanistan for a year. When got back he went to school for two years to become a Black Hawke helicopter pilot. He was promoted to a Warrant Officer and served a second tour, this time in Iraq. Glad to see him safe and hope he has seen the last of that part of the world. Last week we had a clean air meeting, concerning the Alton Mine, at the High School. This meeting was well attended, with over 60 people in attendance. This is remarkable considering the fact the only notice of this meeting was in the Kanab paper, thank goodness for Bobbie Bryant picking up the meeting on the internet and letting the Garfield residents know about it. Two things that concerned me (1) The Alton Mine personnel monitor the air quality and the (2) air quality is not measured before the mine is opened so a baseline is not determined to measure the air against! If this bothers you as it does me let our city leaders know. Pat would like to take some space for the following announcements: 1. Help! I need volunteers for the Christmas Home Tours. December 4th Satura. day from 5-8 pm Call Pat at 676-2418 b. if you are willing to show your home. 2. Sub- for-Santa will be up and running this year. The economy has not been at its best so if you need help call Pat or have questions stop by and get a form to fill out. 3. The Holiday Craft Fair is the second Saturday in November. One of the successful fund raisers for Sub for Santa is the candy booth. In the past the candy makers in Panguitch have been the source for this booth. I hope you will continue with this tradition. Save Diane Houston a call and let her know you are making candy again this year. Thank you -Thank you! A,V4, AG MARKET NEWS Receipts: 1,358; Last Week: 1,251. Last Year: 1,343.
